The Toboplaya is finally removed from Playa del Inglés

 

This Tuesday, the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana began the removal work of the old Toboplaya in Playa del Inglés with a thorough campaign to clear debris and clean all the material installations and garbage accumulated on the site, after more than 26 years presenting an image unhealthy and completely abandoned next to the main tourist promenade of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the Paseo Maspalomas Costa Canaria.

 

 

These works, which will continue for as long as necessary to complete the removal of the old slides and all the garbage accumulated over so many years, are being carried out by the City Council itself with human and material resources from the departments of Roads and Works, Cleaning and Parks and Gardens, in a collaboration campaign unprecedented in its scope. 

 

 

Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez and the Councilor for Urban Planning, Alejandro Marichal Ramos, supervised the beginning of the work together with the councilors Eduardo Armas Herrera and Ruymán Cardoso López, responsible for the council departments that have planned this shock action.

 

The municipal government decided to undertake the environmental adaptation of the 4.500 square meters of the Toboplaya site as a priority to combat its enormous negative impact, after the bidding procedure opened in this regard by the Consortium for Tourist Rehabilitation of Maspalomas, with a budget which was around €450.000, will remain void.

 

 

 

Expected cleanliness

 

The mayor affirms that this immediate and long-awaited cleaning action will not be the final one. "The City Council has decided to undertake this action so that the problem visually is not so serious and, subsequently, to be able to undertake an in-depth reform of this entire space." it states

 

For his part, the Urban Planning Councilor highlights that the government group decided to act in the cleaning of Toboplaya because “for many years we have been seeing this bad image for San Bartolomé de Tirajana on the beachfront,” and announces that “since “The Consortium is working to invest more than half a million euros in the creation of a viewpoint and the improvement of this entire environment.”

 

The cleaning and debris removal works began at eight in the morning so as not to interfere with the rest of the tourists and after the municipal workers cordoned off the entire perimeter of the operation with a protective fence. It is estimated that they will last for just over a week and that the volume of debris, wood, plastics, useless appliances, prunings and other garbage of all kinds that will be selectively removed over the next few days will exceed 6 tons.
