The plenary session of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council approved this Thursday to allocate 931.622 euros to the rehabilitation of Avenida de las Gaviotas and the repaving of surrounding roads in Pozo Izquierdo. The project for this work will be proposed to the Cabildo of Gran Canaria in order to finance it through the Cooperation Plan with the town councils. In the ordinary plenary session, a motion against the latest sexist crimes and another in favor of peace were also unanimously approved. The plenary session rejected a motion presented by Vox that requested that the city council carry out special activities to celebrate October 12 as Hispanic Heritage Day.
The mayor, Francisco García, informed the plenary session that the City Council will propose to the Cabildo of Gran Canaria two works projects to be included in the Cooperation Plan with the City Councils in the year 2024. The first work will be “the rehabilitation of the pavement the Avenida de las Gaviotas and resurfacing of surrounding roads”, for an amount of 931.622 euros. The other work is the rehabilitation of the Ermita de Sardina, which is municipal property, for an amount of 230.000 euros.
The financial forecast of the Fdcan Gran Canaria 2023-2027 program was also approved. In these six years, a total of 8.686.454 euros will be allocated to the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, half of that amount will be contributed from the municipal budget.
At the proposal of the Department of Equality, a motion condemning the last two deaths due to sexist violence in the Canary Islands was unanimously approved, one on August 8 in the Tenerife municipality of La Laguna and another on September 13 in San Mateo. The motion was read by the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Olga Cáceres, and was approved as an institutional declaration with the votes of all councilors. The text proposes to “express once again the most energetic rejection and condemnation of these acts of aggression and death that many women have been suffering, and to ask that they stop violating and impeding the enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms. "Also express the solidarity of the Municipal Corporation with the relatives of the last victims." After the approval of the motion, the entire Municipal Corporation observed a minute of silence for the victims of sexist violence.
A motion presented by the Councilor for Solidarity, Ofelia Alvarado, on the occasion of the International Day of Peace on September 21, was also unanimously approved. The text states that "16 of the 33 war conflicts are concentrated in Africa and 36 of the 108 scenarios of pre-war tension, to which we must add the intensification of repression in Occupied Western Sahara by Morocco." The motion urges the European Parliament “to be actively involved in the non-violent resolution of the war conflicts that are taking place.” It also asks the Spanish government “to propose urgent measures for the immediate cessation of all war conflicts that are currently active around the world,” and for the Spanish executive “to work towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.” , in particular by objective 16, which seeks to substantially reduce all forms of violence.”
All groups rejected Vox's motion requesting that the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council organize activities to celebrate October 12, “Hispanic Day.” The motion requested that the mayor publish a decree encouraging the population to participate in these activities. The three groups that are part of the government (Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, PSOE and Unidos por Gran Canaria) and La Fortaleza (in the opposition) voted against Vox's motion.
In the plenary session, Manuel Hernández Pérez, who was the head of the list of the Neighborhood Association-Popular Party coalition, was also informed of the resignation of his councilmanship in the last local elections. The mayor offered all political groups the possibility of saying farewell words to Manuel Hernández, but all the spokespersons declined to do so.
