The Cabildo and Government of the Canary Islands declare the alert situation due to the risk of forest fires
The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, declares the alert situation due to the risk of forest fires on the islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, starting at 13:00 p.m. , from October 3rd.
This decision is made taking into account the information available and in application of the Special Plan for Civil Protection and Emergency Response to Forest Fires of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (INFOCA).
The situation affects the entire island territory located above the level of 400 meters above sea level.
Agricultural and forestry burning, lighting fires in shelters, camping areas and recreational areas, and using machinery that generates sparks, deflagrations or electric shocks in mountains and rural areas are prohibited.
Traveling on forest trails and tracks is not permitted except for residents and public services.
Territorial scope:
Islands of El Hierro, La Gomera at an elevation above 400 m, La Palma, Tenerife in a risk zone established by the Island Council (except the area affected by the Arafo forest fire that remains in an Emergency Situation) and Gran Canaria at an elevation greater than 400 m.
Remarks:
The dry and warm environment associated with the entry of a Saharan air mass is producing an increase in maximum temperatures above 30ºC. The wind will be moderate from the northeast on the coasts with strong intervals in the northwest and southeast corners of the islands, while in the midlands and summits a moderate wind will blow from the east with strong intervals. The relative humidity will be below 30% during this episode in the midlands and peaks.
