The Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso, highlights the importance of offering a service like this “in a nerve center of tourism on the Island”
From today, the Faro de Maspalomas Ethnographic Center provides a new service to people with ostomies by having converted the previous bathroom adapted for people with reduced mobility and functional diversity - after a renovation work - into a bathroom in which those people who have had surgery and a bag has been placed for feces or urine, they can go and relieve themselves.
And, as the Councilor for Economic Development of the Cabildo, Minerva Alonso, who visited the facilities today, explained, the ostomy is a process in which a part of society is increasingly involved, which is why “It is worth highlighting the importance of the institution providing this service in a nerve center of tourism on the island, of course, with furniture that is regulated by law and approved materials,” commented the counselor.
The Faro de Maspalomas Ethnographic Center, an emblematic building declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2005, is located in an area with the highest influx of visitors, receiving approximately 120.000 people annually, including not only the tourist population, but a wide representation of local groups, neighborhood associations and, mainly, schoolchildren, who enjoy completely free arranged visits. In addition, this property offers exhibition rooms where you can take a tour of the history of Gran Canaria through artisan products and crafts. A craft store and a tourist information point complete the service offering of this unique historical construction, declared a Site of Cultural Interest in April 2005.
