Jessica de León and the mayor of the town, Onalia Bueno, met to coordinate infrastructure and tourism promotion actions

The Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jessica de León, visited the municipality of Mogán, in Gran Canaria, where she held a meeting with the mayor of the town, Onalia Bueno, and her councillors, to jointly address the actions future in terms of infrastructure and tourism promotion.

At the meeting, De León reviewed the investments that the department has made to improve the public tourist spaces of Mogán, highlighting the state of execution of the works. “Mogán is a benchmark in the execution of Sustainability Plans in the Destination of the European Next Generation funds,” he noted.

De León valued the good understanding between the two administrations, emphasizing the importance of the Government of the Canary Islands establishing lines of collaboration with the City Councils to “promote investments in tourist infrastructure that do not remain on paper, but are executable and go hand in hand with the effort that the private sector is making to move towards an increasingly sustainable destination.”

According to De León, this good level of collaboration with the Mogán City Council also occurs in the area of Employment, with initiatives such as the Training Programs in Alternation with Employment (PFAE), which Mogán has launched with financing from the Canary Service of Employment (SCE). These plans, De León highlighted, “improve the training offer and employability options for the residents of the municipality.”

For her part, the mayor of the municipality, Onalia Bueno, thanked the councilor for choosing Mogán to carry out her first institutional visit to Gran Canaria. Bueno took advantage of the meeting to present the works that have been carried out in the town to renew its tourist spaces, as well as the projects that have been carried out in the last eight years with financing from the Ministry of Tourism, among which he listed the Perchel beach, the underpass of the GC-500 in Arguineguín and the improvement of the margins and roads of this same road in its access to the fishing town.

“We have seen an important transformation due to the collaboration between the administrations,” he noted, ensuring that the objective is to continue executing new projects at a good pace in the current legislature.

During the visit, the counselor was able to meet the pupils of the PFAE “Mogán Me Sabe”, jointly financed by the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE) and the Mogán City Council. An opportunity, Bueno noted, “to see the professionalism and work of these young people, who due to different circumstances were not able to continue their educational stage and have now reintegrated and will return to the labor market with professionalism certificates.”
