Mogán commemorates 25N with mindfulness workshops, self-defense, a conference and tribute to the victims

The Gender Violence area of ​​the Department of Social Policy of the Mogán City Council has prepared a program of activities for this month of November in commemoration of 25N, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This includes a mindfulness workshop, a self-defense workshop, a conference on the current situation of gender violence and a tribute to the victims of this serious social and health problem.

 

 

The professional team of the Prevention and Comprehensive Care Service for Women and Minor Victims of Gender Violence of Mogán, led by Councilor Tania Alonso, works continuously to offer free social, legal, psychological and educational care throughout the year. . The Department also develops free activities that promote comprehensive health and female empowerment. But every November the focus is on November 25, a date that Alonso emphasizes "we must not ignore until we completely eradicate any type of violence against women."

 

This 2021, in-person participation in the activities scheduled for 25N will be possible again. This same Thursday, November 4, will be the first session of the 'Mindfulness and Full Attention' workshop with the psychologist Rafael Pérez, which aims to provide tools that promote concentration in the present moment to reduce excess 'noise' through different techniques. and stress, in addition to learning to manage thoughts and emotions without prejudice. The workshop will continue on November 11 and 18 and will be taught from 17:00 p.m. to 19:00 p.m. in the Municipal Training Classroom attached to Las Marañuelas beach, Arguineguín.  

 

On November 5, 12 and 19, a women's self-defense workshop will take place at the facilities of the Gym Sur Karate Club (c/ Princesa Tenesoya 3, Arguineguín), from 16:00 p.m. to 17:15 p.m., with Víctor Pulido , teacher and national coach of Aikido and Jiujitsu of the Royal Spanish Federation of Judo and Associated Sports.

 

On Wednesday the 24th at 17:00 p.m. there will be the conference-colloquium “The current situation of gender violence” with the speaker Alejandro Navarro, magistrate judge of the Court of Violence against Women No. 1 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and the Thursday the 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the event will be held to honor the victims of gender violence with the participation of the Dance Classroom of the Artistic Schools of Mogán, starting at 18:30 p.m. Both events will take place at the El Mocán Cultural Center and to attend it is necessary to reserve tickets (free) at www.agendamogan.es.

 

“Now that we are progressively recovering in-person activity, always adapted to current health circumstances, I encourage citizens to participate in this program that we hope will contribute to raising awareness about gender violence,” says councilor Alonso. So far in 2021 in Spain, 36 women and 5 minors have been murdered due to gender violence. Since there are records of these cases in 2003, 1.117 women and 42 minors have been murdered in our country.
