The UK's two largest tour operators have stepped on the accelerator and announced a significant increase in capacity for the summer of 2024 in the south of Gran Canaria. According to data published on Monday by the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), both Jet2 and TUI have requested an increase in Seats protected by ATOL insurance. That is to say: Jet2 consolidates its takeover of the traditional TUI market in the south of Gran Canaria
This is a compensation fund that protects customers who have booked a holiday package that includes a flight in the event of the tour operator or airline going bankrupt. Jet2 extends its lead with an increase of 850.000 protected seats, taking its total to 6,7 million over TUI UK, which has followed suit with an increase of 522.000 protected seats, reaching 5,9 million. If combined with the offer of its subsidiary Marella Cruises, the figure rises to 6,2 million.
EasyJet Holidays leads the increase in seats, adding 980.720 to reach a total of 2,2 million. However, this significant growth has not yet surpassed Loveholidays (2,6 million) and Booking.com (2,3 million). Rounding out the top 10 are On the Beach, British Airways Holidays, BravoNext (Last Minute.com), Marella and Travel Republic.
