XXV annual meeting of the island's libraries in Tunte

 

The second deputy mayor and councilor responsible for the areas of Culture and Education, Elena Álamo Vega opened this Friday the XXV Meeting of Municipal Libraries of Gran Canaria, held at the Pancho Guerra Cultural Center, in Tunte, with the generic title of 'Citizenship , Participation and Libraries'.

 

This meeting for training, exchange and coexistence of the island's public librarians was organized by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council and the Island Library of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands. Representatives from the municipal libraries of Ingenio, Valsequillo, Valleseco, Agaete, San Mateo, Santa Brígida, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Telde and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria participated, as well as delegates from the University Library and the State Public Library. of the capital of Gran Canaria.

 

Also participating in the institutional opening of the event were the councilor delegate for Education and Culture, Esther Delgado Sánchez; the insular Minister of Culture and Heritage, Guacimara Medina, and the Vice Minister of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the autonomous Government, Horacio Umpiérrez. 

 

This year the day was supported by two presentations and two communications. The first presentation was given by Jorge Artiles, Ana Moreno and Gara Sentis, responsible for the LabZ citizen laboratory promoted by the Cabildo's Citizen Participation for the design of community projects aimed at identifying public spaces for youth socialization. The second, on the keys to action of the Canary Islands Reading Plan 2023-2030, was presented by Inés Miret, from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, a specialist in digital projects related to reading, books and libraries.

 

Regarding the two communications, Claudia Rodríguez Cubas, from the Network of Municipal Libraries of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, defended the first one dedicated to “the 4Cs of participation (believe, create, grow and community)”, and Loly León Donate , from the Municipal Library of Arucas, presented the second, about the participatory experience of 'dog friendly libraries'.

 

The annual meetings of the municipal libraries of Gran Canaria have been held since 1999. Arucas hosted the first edition and San Bartolomé de Tirajana the third, in May 2001. On that occasion the central theme of the meeting held in this municipality was the management of quality and marketing in public libraries.
