The Ministry debuts at the Andalusian fair Tierra Adentro, focused on inland, sports, adventure and nature tourism

“Connectivity with the peninsula has grown a lot in recent years and for the winter season this will be up to 32% above the level we had before the pandemic, thanks to the incorporation of new destinations and routes,” details Jéssica de Lion

The Department of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the public company Turismo de Islas Canarias, debuts at the Tierra Adentro fair, held in Jaén, to attract the peninsular visitor, a market with which the archipelago will be connected this winter with 2,4 million seats, 3,5% more compared to the same period last year.

“The connectivity of the islands with the peninsula has grown a lot in recent years and for the winter season this will be up to 32% above the level we had before the pandemic,” details counselor Jéssica de León. A progressive increase that has been due both to “the incorporation of new destinations and numerous routes that complete the map of connections between peninsular cities and the different island airports,” concludes de León.

The Canary Islands now connects with Jerez de la Frontera, San Sebastián or Menorca, among other peninsular enclaves, and this winter the link between Bilbao and Tenerife South will be added to the new routes, which Norwegian had stopped operating before the pandemic and which now recovers the Volotea airline with two weekly flights.

With the aim of guaranteeing the greatest possible occupancy of these air seats, the Canary Islands attend Tierra Adentro, a fair aimed at domestic, sports, adventure and nature tourism. The archipelago will have its own 32 m² stand with six counters and representation from Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro and Fuerteventura, as well as Tourism of the Canary Islands. Each counter will have a touch screen where the visitor can obtain information about the different tourist resources that the destination offers.

Last year, Tierra Adentro received 13.000 visitors at the Ifeja fairgrounds, which has 10.800 m² of exhibition space converted into the largest showcase of indoor tourism, sports and adventures in Andalusia and where all the products can be displayed individually.

The fair focuses on the practice of sports in active contact with nature, as the main link between inland tourism and active tourism, and is aimed at all those people seeking to live new experiences, explore different environments or participate in a wide variety of activities related to the outdoors and active tourism.

The commercial area is complemented by a space for activities, workshops, technical days and a workshop in which both sports and adventure tourism companies and travel agencies specialized in this sector participate. The presence of the Canary Islands at the fair is 85% co-financed by Feder funds.
