Carrefour approves premises for stores in Maspalomas and Mogán

Carrefour is coming for the Spar stores in Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana since the Vecindario hypermarket in the Atlántico shopping center is far from the urban public of the aforementioned municipalities. In the first municipality he will have problems because Supercor already came from there and it is a protectorate that Spar manages as if it were a military junta. But where Spar doesn't eat market in Mogán, it will be made to pay dearly in Tirajana and its influential commercial area of Maspalomas, El Tablero, San Fernando and Playa del Inglés. "It is no longer necessary to receive offers, the premises have already been purchased although renovations must be made," said a source in the sector.

A source from the financial sector consulted by Maspalomas24H indicated that Mogán Spar has excellent institutional diplomacy and cost discipline is improving with operational efficiencies, with personnel that create a more agile aspect in the organization, but a significant improvement has yet to be seen in the margins. Which is why this low-cost business model is what Carrefour is interested in now to attract more customers with low prices. Furthermore, it does not require large investments.

At the moment, Carrefour has reached an agreement with El Corte Inglés to buy the SuperCor store in Las Palmas and plans to convert Carrefour Market, Carrefour Express and Supeco. Supeco is Carrefour's competitor to Mercadona or Lidl but with more convenient formats due to its proximity. It has never been clarified why El Corte Inglés' Supercor closed in Mogán, where it opened a store in 2008 and its margins were attractive as it was a tourist area. In Las Palmas it was located on Grupo Dunas land, those were the times of Marcial Construcciones.

The format to be placed in the south of Gran Canaria will offer a maximum of 2.500 items (approximately 10 times less than a conventional supermarket) that are organized as if it were a warehouse: the products are presented in cardboard boxes or directly on pallets. They can be purchased individually or in large quantities at very affordable prices. They are a type of cash & carry located in spaces of 1.500 to 2.000 square meters and reminiscent of the beginnings of brands like Lidl, which saved on decoration and image.
