The Government of the Canary Islands suspends classes until Monday due to the intense heat

The Government of the Canary Islands has decided to suspend classes in non-university centers on the islands until next Monday due to the heat wave that the archipelago has been experiencing since last week. The Minister of Education, Poli Suárez, announced this measure in the Parliament of the Canary Islands and justified it by stating that it was taken "out of responsibility" after several episodes of fainting and fatigue were recorded in several schools on the islands due to the high temperatures.

 

The counselor stated that the department has taken this measure “after many hours of analysis and realizing that the situation in the Canary Islands centers is unsustainable.”

 

 

Until today, the Government of the Canary Islands had been reluctant to adopt this measure and, failing that, sought to develop protocols to alleviate the sensation of heat and embarrassment in the classrooms, measures that many parents did not think were sufficient since some centers do not have optimal refrigeration services to deal with the temperatures of up to 38 degrees recorded in recent days in the Canary Islands.
