The head of Sustainability and Environment of the Lopesan Group, Elizabeth Socorro, has pointed out that the chain has reduced plastic waste by 3.000 kilos thanks to the cooperation between the chain and suppliers. She added that in the company certification helps "measure and know what the plan to follow is, it means continuous improvement." This 2023, the company has celebrated 10 years since it launched its EcoLopesan agenda. Socorro stated in a meeting of Banco Sabadell's Business Hub that the company's priority is to take on challenges that involve a logical framework for environmental management in the chain's establishments. At the forum was Sergio Sánchez, director of Sustainable Business Development at Banco Sabadell Companies; José Luís Muñoz García, executive director of RH Hotels
Socorro said that "without a doubt, sustainability has become a differentiating aspect and is currently a competitive necessity, and therefore the need to introduce it in the business plan, as a lever of change for shareholders, suppliers, clients, and society." She added that tourism is a very competitive business that requires a comprehensive agenda so that the product has the capacity to generate value in a sustainable way. Socorro said, when asked by Pere Casas, director of the Banco Sabadell Tourism Sector, that corporate efforts can end up not working "if you do not communicate correctly." She added that "it has happened to us" that the chain has implemented plans regarding business sustainability but that staff and customers have not found out. Regarding the role of suppliers, she said that "it is very important to establish strong alliances and collaborations." As an example, she said that recently in a meeting with suppliers they collected 3 tons of plastic packaging "and they can make contributions to us and we in turn contribute knowledge."
Since 2013, the chain chaired by Eustasio López has had an agenda called EcoLopesan. With this, it began to launch an annual sustainability report for Lopesan Hotel Group, which highlights the investment made by the company in more efficient energy systems and the increase in the use of renewable energy. One of his projects is zero, the minimization of the use of plastic, the segregation of waste at source for subsequent recycling or valuation and sustainable purchasing policies. The chain has 3 wind farms in operation for the production of green energy, the assembly of photovoltaic installations for self-consumption in the development phase and the creation of solar thermal installations and the implementation of waste minimization plans.
