The woman was traveling on a local bike lane when she was hit by a car while crossing the road through a passage enabled within the lane.
A tragic event on the road has left one person dead in Santa Lucía de Tirajana. A woman in her 40s has lost her life after being hit by a car while she was cycling on one of the municipality's bike lanes. The event occurred on Avenida del Atlántico, in one of the pedestrian crossings that are within the bike lanes that connect to Calle Velázquez.
According to some witnesses, the driver of the car was an elderly man who, upon noticing the woman's presence, tried to avoid the impact but accelerated instead of braking, which is why he ended up colliding head-on with the cyclist.
After the strong impact, witnesses to what happened immediately alerted the emergency services who arrived at the scene a few minutes after the event. The Local Police set up a tent to preserve the privacy of the victim while the health workers treated her, but they could only certify her death.
The emergency personnel present at the scene also assisted the driver of the car, who showed anxiety due to the situation.
The Local Police were in charge of regulating traffic in the area and instructing the corresponding procedures.
