Corporación Masaveu and the Brazilian Votoratim, owners of the cement company located in Santa Águeda, gave instructions to their directors this Thursday to maintain silence about the closure process that Puertos Canarios hopes to carry out before December 2023 at the port for industrial operations. This will prevent the arrival of ingredients for the cement and, therefore, the gradual cessation of the activity. The company does not want confrontations because it is clear that it is going to use that plot to develop a hotel, in principle, under the Iberostar umbrella.
The reaction of the company owners is due to the fact that a Canarian nationalist union has entered the scene supporting the workers and that was not foreseen. "They were not Ceisa employees, they were employees or people who were outside their work shift, mostly subcontractors, but the cement company does not have to be involved in those things and it is not," said a source from the company.
This Thursday the director of Puertos Canarios said that the directors in the islands are moving the file in the courts because what they are looking for is to get the courts to give them the underlying reason, they think that just because they have a mining concession they already have the right to have a new port concession." In his opinion, the port occupation "now moves to a precarious situation and now in a precarious situation means that at any time the administration, as a consequence of what the courts say, may demand its withdrawal "What this does is that it distances Ceisa further from the expectation of a new concession."
