Canary Islands on alert for coastal phenomena

MASPALOMAS24H Saturday, October 21 from 2023

The passage of a storm to the north of the Canary Islands will bring with it a bad state of the sea, mainly swell

The Government of the Canary Islands has updated the situation and declares, as of 03.00:22 a.m. on Sunday, October XNUMX, an alert for coastal phenomena in the archipelago, given the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) for this weekend. which contemplates poor state of the sea, mainly swell, caused by the passage of a storm to the north of the Canary Islands, which will give rise to combined seas from the northwest and will mainly affect the windward coasts, open to the north and west, of all the islands of the archipelago.

In this sense, the height of the waves could reach between 4 and 6 meters in these orientations and cause damage to infrastructure and bathers.

Given this situation, the Government of the Canary Islands recommends that the population take extreme precautions on the coast and put into practice self-protection recommendations to avoid risky situations and accidents.

Therefore, it is important to avoid standing on docks and breakwaters and not risk taking images near where the waves break. Likewise, it is insisted that bathing is prohibited on red flag beaches and that access to the sea in areas affected by strong waves should always be avoided.

In the event of an emergency situation, 1-1-2 should be alerted immediately.
