Maspalomas Competition: this is how Agadir starts the winter tourism season

The airline SAS begins this November 4 operations between Arlanda Stockholm a new direct route to Agadir, Morocco. The route previously had no service and will be operated once a week, on Saturdays, starting November 4 of this year. Morocco is going to invest 80 million euros to be able to accommodate up to 6 million passengers a year, a figure lower than that of Gran Canaria but with nuances: its objective is Nordic tourism and Russian tourism. Ryanair is going to connect the Moroccan destination with the United Kingdom. For next year, between Agadir and Birmingham Jet2 launches twice a week from October 3, 2024 to November 16, 2025; Bristol: a weekly frequency from October 6, 2024 to November 13, 2025, with two weekly flights in April and October 2025 (exclusive Jet2 route). Glasgow: one weekly frequency from 3 November 2024 to 12 November 2025, with two weekly services in April and October 2025.

The first departure is scheduled for November 4, 2023, and the route will operate once a week, on Saturdays, during the winter season using the fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo, with capacity for 180 passengers. “We see great potential for the scheduled service to Agadir. There is growing demand from both tourists and travelers flying to visit friends and family,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Aviation Business Director at Swedavia.

On the other hand, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will offer a third of the total of 6 million international flights to Morocco. This is 29% more flights than in the same period in 2022. There will be 15 new international connections from Agadir, Essaouira, Ouarzazate, Rabat and Marrakech, with a planned growth rate of 29%. A seventh plane will be stationed in Marrakech to increase the capacity of this destination

In winter 2023, the airline will offer 15 new connections. These include Agadir, Essaouira, Ouarzazate, Rabat and Marrakech. Flights depart from France, Germany, Spain, Poland, Great Britain and Sweden. Marrakech remains the most important Moroccan destination in Ryanair's portfolio. It represents 42% of the airline's total capacity. The growth is 37% (761.000 places in winter 2023 compared to 556.000 in winter 2022). The airports of Ouarzazate (+206%) and Essaouira (+76%) recorded the highest growth, followed by Rabat (+40%), Fés and Agadir with 13% each. The bases of the 12 Ryanair aircraft in Morocco are the airports of Marrakech, Fés and Agadir.

The Gran Canaria airport registered the highest number of passengers in August in the Canary Islands, with 1.129.345, which represented 3,6 percent more than in 2022. In the first eight months of 2023, the Gran Canaria airport registered 9.079.574 ,15,6 passengers, 2022 percent more than in XNUMX.
