The Acebuches Trail 2023 is now underway. Many runners are already training on the narrow country roads that wind along the slopes of the Barranco de Soria and Arguineguín. In the streets of the small town of Cercados de Espino there has been a greater daily traffic for two weeks. The neighbors are already waiting for this Sunday to arrive to welcome the athletes, their families, their friends and all the fans who want to join and participate in the town's great festival. It is estimated that more than 2.000 people will do so. With registrations now closed, everything is ready for the eighth edition.
The social and sporting event of a festive and popular nature was presented this Tuesday in the square of the old church of Cercados de Espino, the same enclave where the first edition started on November 16, 2014 with 200 runners. Since then the test has not stopped growing. This year about 620 runners have registered.
The presentation of the event was carried out by the spokesperson for the Acebuches Trail Cultural and Sports Association, Alejandro Araña, and the Sports Councilors of the municipalities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Mogán, Ramón Suárez and Luis Becerra respectively, as representatives of the two public administrations that collaborate the most with the organizing entity.
Araña explained that for the Acebuches Trail 2023 all the paths have been cleaned and reviewed, “although most of them were in good condition because it has not been a rainy year,” and also, as a novelty, that “only two distances will be contested because What the participants want is to enjoy the final party.” The bib delivery will take place this Thursday the 26th at Decathlon (Telde) from 17:00 p.m. to 21:30 p.m., and on Friday the 27th at 6 Alonso Quesada Street (Arguineguín), from 17:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m. XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
The start and finish line will be on the soccer field. At 9.00:16 a.m. the 1.000-kilometer test begins, with a 10.00-meter drop, and at 7:500 a.m. the 500-kilometer test with a 100-meter drop, “which is the most participatory because people want to run a little and have a lot of fun,” according to organizers. It is estimated that more than 12 athletes will start in the two races, and that just over 00 children will participate in the initiation tests planned between the two longest distances. The Trail is expected to take place “with spectacular weather,” and the trophy presentation will begin around XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
Araña, Suárez and Becerra recognized the great involvement of all the neighborhood associations of the Barranco de Soria-Arguineguín in the materialization of this social and sporting event, which has a permanent work and chat commission of 14 members throughout the year. . They also thanked the involvement of the collaborating companies that sponsor the race and wished the runners luck. The two councilors emphasized the work of the organizers to turn the Acebuches Trail into “a very important event for the life of the town of Cercados de Espino.”
Also present at the presentation was the Italian runner Luca Papi, triple winner of the Transgrancanaria, who participates in the Acebuches Trail "to train, meet people and enjoy other spaces on the Island." He assumes that he will not win here, because it is a very fast race and long distances are his thing. He assures that “it is one of the most beautiful tests in which he has participated.” The organization recognizes that “the key to the event is the end of the race party.” This year it will be entertained by Kilian Viera and Paco Guedes.
