The Department of Parks and Gardens of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has already carried out the geotechnical surveys that must determine the origin and extent of the sinkhole detected in the sports field of the El Tablero Multifunctional Park.
The appearance of said collapse and several cracks of different sizes in the floor of the court, together with the serious and dangerous deterioration presented by many areas of the venue and its playing infrastructure, dictated the obligation to urgently close the children's leisure facility. and preventive on Saturday, July 1.
The drilling to find out the reasons for the land subsidence and the properties of said soil were carried out this Wednesday by a specialized company. In total, 4 excavations were carried out at different depths, the greatest at 3,5 meters.
The Study and the results of these pits, still without conclusions, will be incorporated into the technical proposal that the Department of Parks and Gardens directed by Araceli Armas Cruz has requested from a technical team made up of a geologist and an engineer.
These technicians, also responsible for the restoration project of the Multifunctional Park, will be the ones who must determine what should be done to consolidate and restore the floor of the court or, failing that, define another viable alternative if the depth and poor quality of the terrain make it advisable.
The start date of the general action in the Multifunctional Park will depend on the result of this study. At the time, the Department of Parks and Gardens meditated and debated with the municipal technicians the possibility of proceeding with the restoration of the play area through actions in specific limited areas so as not to have to close it completely, but the appearance of the sinkhole disrupted the entire project. initial approach.
The enormous deterioration of the El Tablero Multifunctional Park has its origins in the absolute and negligent lack of maintenance that the facility suffered during the last four years, especially in its garden spaces and children's areas. “The previous councilor of the area, who had exclusive dedication to this area, was officially aware of the poor state of the premises since November 23, and the municipal technicians alerted her of its danger in two reports that she did not want to receive until the day before. the municipal elections,” says Araceli Armas.
The closure of the park occurred, among other reasons, due to the deplorable state of the garden areas, many of which had completely disappeared and with the metal tree pits holding the land completely exposed; but also and above all the children's play areas, with the artificial grass detached from the supports. The technicians warned that they posed “a risk of entrapment, falls and impacts” for users.
