The Councilor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega: “We began the path to begin transforming our tourist destination and place of residence”

Alejandro Marichal: “The improvement and modernization of public spaces as well as the accommodation plant and shopping centers will promote the new tourist city”

The Tourism Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council will propose to the municipal plenary session that will be held tomorrow, Thursday, October 26, a budget modification in the amount of eight million euros to undertake three projects in the tourist area of Maspalomas Costa Canaria. Said modification, charged to the remainder of the Treasury for General Expenses, will financially provide the Maspalomas Consortium to carry out the conditioning of the Paseo Costa Canaria in the section that goes between the Parque Tropical Shopping Center and the Beach Club Hotel; the conditioning of the walks parallel to the bed of the Maspalomas ravine, from its connection to the Charca de Maspalomas; and the creation of a bicycle lane and pedestrian walk, in both directions of the GC-500 highway in the section that goes from the El Hornillo-Meloneras square to the square leading up to the Montaña Blanca neighborhood.

With the approval of the proposal that will be submitted to the plenary session, says the Councilor for Tourism, Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega (CC), “the foundations will be laid for the management of these works to condition the local landscape and the management of human resources. in favor of the image and tourist promotion of Maspalomas Costa Canaria.” The rehabilitation of public spaces is a “pending task for the Administration that has been in dissonance, in recent years, with business activity in this matter, which is why we began the path to begin transforming our tourist destination and place of residence.” .

In this way, they will invest 3,8 millones de euros for the conditioning of the walks that run along the canal of the Maspalomas ravine to the GC-500. The objective of this project is to recover the promenades of Jhan Reisen and Lufhansa Avenues within the scope of the project, rearranging the existing promenade to provide it with uniformity, make it fully accessible, eliminate safety problems on the promenade, as well as provide continuity to the cycling network with which the San Bartolomé City Council is providing the municipality.

To achieve these objectives, we will first proceed to the geometric definition of the walk; A Cycle Path will be created on one of the sides, clearly defined and signposted; the irrigation network will be redefined; The street furniture to be used will be determined and new public lighting will be installed as well as fences or hedges throughout the boundary area between the promenade and the Maspalomas and La Tabaquera ravines.

Another of the projects to be executed, and which has a financial endowment of almost 2,7 millones de euros will be the execution of the works of modernization and transformation of the old GC-500, between Meloneras and Pasito Blanco, in a new urban pedestrian and cycling route, which has been highly demanded by users for several years now. The objective is to allow the traffic of cyclists and pedestrians who circulate on this road, eliminating the risks to which they are exposed when traveling on a road that formerly served as an expressway and that has no shoulders, sidewalks or lighting. With this project, the GC-500 (in the indicated section) will be transformed into an urban road with a lower speed limit, which will include pedestrian communication routes between Meloneras and Pasito Blanco, making this one more safe road for users of alternative mobility and for sports cycling.

The third project to be executed by the Maspalomas Consortium will be the remodeling of the Paseo Costa Canaria in a section that goes from the Parque Tropical Shopping Center to the Beach Club Hotel (between Playa del Inglés and San Agustín). For its execution, will invest a total of 1.270.353 euros to remodel the two worst sections of it, one from the mouth of the ravine to the walkway in the Las Burras ravine, and a second section from the parking lot on Cardones Street to the Beach Club. The Costa Canaria promenade runs from San Agustín Beach to the Public Viewpoint located on the plot of the Riu Palace Hotel in a length of 5.650 meters in length and which has been remodeled in sections, with this the promenade that is now found will be rehabilitated itself in very poor condition, given that it is an area with a large influx of tourists.

The first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marcihal, points out the importance of the works being carried out, highlighting that it is one of the three objectives of the Department of Tourism defined for this legislature: to execute an Improvement and Modernization Plan for the tourist area to “improve , rehabilitate and update the image of our destination.” This objective, together with the rehabilitation of the accommodation plant and shopping centers through urban incentives, and an ambitious promotion plan, will allow “the launch of the new tourist city of Maspalomas Costa Canaria”.
