MCH fattens Aquanaria after the Tirajana licenses: to sell it?

Gara Hernandez Friday, October 27 from 2023

The Spanish venture capital fund MCH has hired the services of Rothschild to study its divestment in Brasmar, a Portuguese company specialized in the processing, distribution and sale of frozen fish and seafood. And what does that have to do with the south of Gran Canaria? Everything and nothing. MCH is the owner of Aquanaria, where it is increasing investment to generate more fish for the hospitality industry. The company that spends a fortune on the Peninsula omitting that the fish comes from the south of Gran Canaria, pretending that it is owned by the island with that name. But no: it is from Santander with financial oxygen from Madrid. With that "large Atlantic sea bass" it could even be from Senegal. Everything, as long as you don't say south of Gran Canaria.

The business is located in the Gran Canaria Aquaculture Interest Area between Punta de Tarajalillo and Corral de Espino Beach, 3.000 meters from the coastline and is generated on 1.561.998 square meters, although the cages occupy 25.450 square meters. Before changing the regional Executive of the PSOE, despite the resistance of a large part of the fishing community of Castillo del Romeral, Aquanaria had the approval of the Environmental Impact Study for the expansion of the sea bass farm it has in the Port of Castillo del Romeral: 159,3 hectares to generate 3.050 metric tons per year. 1.561.998 square meters while the area dedicated to cultivation (occupied by the cages) will be 25.450 square meters.

The PSOE gave the green light from the so-called Ecological Transition Department because it stated that "it does not have significant adverse effects on the environment, so it should not be subjected to the ordinary environmental impact assessment procedure." MCH wants to generate an increase of 12 cages from the 24 it currently has with a diameter of 30 meters and 20 meters deep, that is, 707 square meters per cage, 10.600 square meters in total.
