Fashion and Friends: “The perfect plan” returns to the Insular Stadium this weekend

The reference event for new trends on the Island starts this Friday, November 3 with new features such as workshops and talks, a photography contest and a broader revitalization program

 

It is already a cult event on the Island that goes beyond a new trends fair. For this reason, the twelfth edition of Moda y Amigos (Fashion and Friends) - which will be held this weekend in the Estadio Insular park - has chosen to promote itself as “the fashion plan” par excellence. True, yes, to the objective with which it was born under the umbrella of the Moda Cálida program - promoted by the Cabildo - and which is none other than to serve as a platform for the fashion, technology, art and design sector, with the already traditional exhibitor area that will feature the participation of 65 brands - 24 of them new - and the catwalk, in addition to the picnic area and as new features, 'La Grada' with workshops and talks, a photography contest and a program of broader dynamization.

This was announced by the Minister of Economic Development, Minerva Alonso, during the presentation, in which she highlighted that Moda y Amigos has “more sustainability, more creativity, more opportunity and more dynamization than ever.” And she recalled that the event arises from the need to make visible the work of young designers, plastic and visual artists, and entrepreneurs from other disciplines, to provide them with a scenario for exchanging projects. A space in which these new talents can market and publicize their original creations, promote their brand, test buyers and contact other professionals, companies in the sector, the media and consumers of fashion, trends, design and art.

 

Fashion & Friends is also conceived as a space in which the audience can learn about fashion from another point of view: by getting involved in the creation processes and committing to differentiated consumption. "It is more than a fair, since it includes parallel activities such as fashion shows, product presentations, musical performances, leisure and restaurants," said the counselor. 

 

This is precisely what the motto of the campaign - starring DuoAdora - “A whole plan, the fashion plan” reflects, the fact that Moda y Amigos “is the perfect plan to disconnect from the routine in a context of fashion, trends, creativity, gastronomy and friends. A meeting point marked on the calendar that has earned public recognition over the years,” said Alonso. “The world has been filled with events, fairs and markets, but Fashion&Friends has always been ahead; and that is why, to demonstrate that it is still the king plan, it presents, in this edition, an image that is increasingly impressive, more sophisticated, increasingly memorable,” added Miguel Ángel Blanco, director of Caetsu Two, the winning company. of the organization. 

 

An event that returns to the Insular Stadium after the success of the last edition, provided by the capital's City Council. In this regard, the Councilor for the Central District, José Eduardo Ramírez, who thanked the capital for choosing the capital to host this event, “in such an emblematic space and with an objective as powerful as the one the Cabildo has with fashion, of giving it to to know the world and that more and more local talent can turn it into their livelihood.” 

 

Walkway, shopping and picnic area: the traditions that return

 

Fashion and Friends will of course once again have a catwalk located under the park's marquee which, as a novelty, will also have the make-up and hairdressing area in view of the public, making the whole more attractive, in what has been baptized as ' glam zone. With a capacity for 200 attendees in each parade, it can be enjoyed from 17:00 p.m. to 20:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, while on Sunday it will be from 12:00 p.m. to 14:00 p.m. There will be 25 brands that will show their creations. Around the parades this year there will also be concerts. 

 

As for the commercial or exhibitor area, they will be located in various spaces distributed throughout the park, which will remain open from 12:00 to 21:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 19:00 p.m. 

 

As of today, there are 65 brands selected as exhibitors, of which 24 are new brands, that is, they have never participated in Fashion and Friends. It is worth highlighting some such as Ysaslow for its ethical and sustainable philosophy; Pullover for its social commitment, and its objective of changing the way fashion is consumed; Dreams for the use of new technologies in production, such as 3D printing and the priority in the use of sustainable materials; Mikimimi, a pet-friendly brand of textiles and accessories for both adults and pets or 'Te las pinto', which uses the ecoprint technique to transfer colors and textures to clothing and accessories. 

 

To them are added seven by the Moda Cálida program, a consolidated designer like Arcadio Domínguez and five new talents: Paula Delgado, Chacho Souvenirs, Patricia Caro, MR&G Desingn, Gianluca Urraso and Arantxa Arenas (FEDAC), in addition to the two winning brands from the Young Designers contest of the MODAMAC Morning Glori program - Gran Canaria, whose production is all handmade, with 100% natural materials and waste reduction in the production process, and Rayco Plata from La Palma.

 

Finally, the IES La Minilla, the Textile, Clothing and Leather department, will also participate, both with an exhibition stand and a catwalk show.

 

In the Commercial Zone, as explained by the counselor, they will also have the presence of Mercedes Ley Art, as Fashion Illustrator, which will make live drawings for visitors who come to its stand, and a Dorada Especial space where you can enjoy the art of painting live by the artist Lamaro, in addition to “other revitalization actions by sponsors and some surprises that we do not want to reveal so that they are encouraged to participate in the event.” 

 

The original format of the picnic area is also recovered, with its charm and its strings of lights, which has been renamed the chic-nic area, which will have four food trucks, four cocktail bars, coffee and a sweet spot and will be open between 12:00 and 00:00 on Friday and Saturday, and between 12:00 and 19:00 on Sunday. 

 

 News: workshops, talks and competitions 

 

One of the great novelties in the area baptized as La Grada, a creative young space provided this year for this event by the Youth Department of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council in which activities will take place such as a board talk by ' Like trout to trout'; a clothing customization and recycling workshop, by Bárbara de Mesas: or a professional makeup MasterClass. 

 

But there are more new features, including the creation of a “sustainability ambassador” among the staff, who will ensure compliance with sustainability measures during the event in all areas, selective waste collection, removal and shipping of materials mentioned above to their destination, etc. Also the expansion of the revitalization agenda with respect to previous years, especially in the areas of music, close-up art, design and dance. The creation of the I F&F Photography Contest (for the public) to collect and reward the essence of F&F - the participation rules can be found on the Moda Cálida website and social networks - and the creation of the I Best Design Contest stand (for exhibitors) to reward aesthetics and the use of recyclable and environmentally friendly materials.

 

Among the sponsors are Volkswagen Canary Islands, present with a stand with the Volkswagen ID.5, the brand's 100% electric SUV, in a bid to bring electrification to all audiences. Also Special Gold,on the Catando Talento platform, which was born under the “Va por Nuestros” campaign, and a “DA Experience” in one of the grass areas, where Lamaro, an artist based in Gran Canaria with a long professional career, will perform live, during all three days, a large-format work of art reflecting the essence of the brand. Finally Codorniú sponsors the “candlelight” concert on Saturday at 21:30 p.m., and will also give the first 200 attendees their new Spritz drink.
