The XX Southeast Fair is consolidated as a showcase for the region's producers and artisans

MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, November 02 from 2023

The event returns to Agüimes with 150 stalls of artisans and farmers who will have the opportunity to show and sell their products

The Avenida de Ansite del Cruce de Arinaga will host this exhibition from November 10 to 12, in which there will also be gastronomic tastings, livestock exhibitions and musical performances, among other activities.

The Southeast Fair will celebrate its twentieth event from November 10 to 12 at the Arinaga Crossing in Agüimes, consolidating itself as a “showcase of producers and artisans of the Southeast Region,” said today the mayor of Agüimes and president of the Southeast Commonwealth. Óscar Hernández, who also highlighted the program of recreational activities that will accompany visitors during the weekend.

“The Southeast Fair is much more than a simple event, it is a tribute to the richness of our region and the traditions that have shaped it over the years and that places the three municipalities that are part of the Southeast Commonwealth as one of the places in the Canary Islands where our identity and traditions are protected with the greatest effort,” said the mayor of Santa Lucía, Francisco García.

The mayor of Ingenio, José López, spoke along the same lines, who endorsed the joint work carried out for years for the entity: “by working together we can go much further,” he stated during the presentation of this Fair that farmers and Artisans are waiting “like May water”, since they sell more than half of their production at this meeting.

As in the last editions, the municipalities of Ingenio, Santa Lucía and Agüimes will have 50 stands each where the producers and artisans of each locality will have the option of displaying their products and selling them directly to the attending public. On this occasion it will be Ansite Avenue that will host the stallholders, since, even though the new Agüimes fairgrounds are available, the businessmen have preferred to hold it on the avenue to give visibility to other businesses and establishments.

Extensive program of activities

Among the planned activities, the 'Cooking the Southeast' gastronomic workshops stand out, with great restaurant professionals who will teach visitors how to use local products in their most traditional recipes, such as frangollo, cochineal or mojos, but also in the contemporary kitchen.

In addition, there will be several tastings of local products such as oil, bread, salt, olives, snails, pastries, tomatoes, wines, cheeses... a great opportunity to learn first-hand about the quality of the product grown and made in the region, including the pasteurized cured goat cheese Quesos Luisita de Arquegran, a cured goat cheese that with its limited annual production won a medal in the last edition of the World Cheese Awards, as the mayor of Aguimes.

On the other hand, a space will be allocated for the daily livestock exhibition, and the final of the XXXII Drag Contest of the Island of Gran Canaria will also be held, which will award the winning livestock the 2023 Canary Islands Government Trophy.

Like every year, the children will also have several sessions of the Island Songbook Theater 'Borondona and his friends' and other children's activities. During the weekend, traditional games workshops will also be held by several folklore groups such as Coros y Danzas, Llanos Prietos, Guayadeque and La Revoliá.

Another of the highlights are the musical performances; La Trova, El Vega Life, Vocal7, Los Salvapantallas, Los Gofiones, Yeray Rodríguez and Conciencia Urbana or Kilombo Improvisado will pass through the fair's stage, and in this edition there will also be space for humor, with a performance by comedian Kike Pérez.

Like every year, the Southeast Commonwealth will also present its awards to the artisans of the region, to value their work and the legacy they leave for future generations.

It should be remembered that all activities are free and open to anyone who wants to come to the fair during the weekend to learn about local products, taste them in a good atmosphere and even take home a sample of local crafts.
