The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has proceeded this Thursday to renew the plaque of the monument dedicated by this municipality to the former Fifa international referee and president of the Swiss Referees Union, Rolf Blattmann, in 2011.
Blattmann, who died in 2010, was the precursor and promoter of the annual seminars that the Federation of Swiss Soccer Referees has been holding in Maspalomas uninterruptedly since 1989.

The renewal of the plaque in memory and gratitude to Blattmann has been undertaken by the Sports Department headed by the fourth deputy mayor, Ramón Suárez Ojeda, to restore the previous one that was already in quite poor condition.
The plaque is located in a monolith built on a landing-square on Paseo Costa Canaria dedicated to the Swiss Confederation and its 26 cantons, in memory precisely of the quiet but effective work that Rolf carried out to benefit and disseminate the main tourist destination of Gran Canaria since he visited Maspalomas in 1988 for the first time. He always recognized the extraordinary climate and the quality of the sports facilities of this municipality for the physical and technical preparation of the national and international referees of his country in all categories.
In addition to the renovation of the plaque, the City Council has also proceeded to tidy up the cleaning and especially the gardening of that environment in anticipation of the visit to the monolith by the participants in the improvement meeting that the Swiss first and second division referees plan to hold. in Maspalomas from the 4th to the 14th of next January.
