The Maspalomas Lighthouse, in the south of Gran Canaria, the economic capital of the province of Las Palmas, paid a warm tribute this weekend to the parachutists who gave their lives in maneuvers held years ago in the dune landscape located in this area. These are 12 paratrooper legionary gentlemen who died in Gran Canaria in the act of service between January 19, 1965 and May 9, 1979, in the act of service. In an emotional event where relatives of the deceased, civil and military authorities and the general public gathered.

The military paratrooper accidents in Maspalomas that occurred between 1.965 and 1.979, during combat preparation and training exercises, ended the life of Captain Juan Castillo Fernaud; of sergeants Manuel Perona Bauxet and Francisco González Calvo; that of Corporal Juan Núñez Teruel and that of the legionary knights Juan Pérez Pérez, Luis Almendral Cármenes, Ramón Carrasco Moreno, Maximiliano Martín Iglesias, José María Martín Caro, Antonio Álvarez Santos, Antonio García Ortiz and Alejandro Jiménez Luján. The event, where the widows and relatives of the deceased participated, was organized by the Association of Parachute Veterans of the Canary Islands.
