Mogán returns to the World Travel Market in London

MASPALOMAS24H Monday, November 06, 2023

The first deputy mayor and Councilor for Tourism Promotion, Mencey Navarro, and the Councilor for Sports, Luis Becerra, are at the London tourism fair, the World Travel Market (WTM), to promote the municipality's tourism offer as well as new and improved tourist infrastructure

The WTM, one of the most important tourist fairs in the world, began today, Monday, November 6, and will continue until Wednesday, the 8th, a period in which the councilors of Mogan will announce the benefits of the destination to the main issuing market of tourists to the Canary Islands, the British.

Mogán exhibits its offer from both the coastal and midland areas, highlighting the momentum that ecotourism and active tourism has taken in the latter thanks to the commitment decided since 2016 by the Mogán City Council, which has since been part of European projects such as ECO- TUR, under which they have rehabilitated more than 30 kilometers of trails. Currently, the City Council is immersed in ECO-TUR 2, and it also does so as the leader with a subsidy of 388.102,86 euros that it invests in the creation of two tourist microproducts.

The first, called 'Mogán, flavor and tradition', consists of the creation of an oil mill and hiking interpretation center. Both services will be enabled in a property in Veneguera, with bidding open there. The other microproduct is called 'Natural Adventure in Mogán' and involves the creation of a block climbing area and dissemination of the canyoning facilities that are developed.

In this sense, the City Council is also developing its Tourism Sustainability Plan with 7,41 million euros that have been granted to it from the funds of the Transformation and Resilience Recovery Plan – Next Generation EU. Among the fifteen lines of action planned, is the implementation of two shelters for hikers, one in Veneguera and the other in Barranquillo Andrés, works that have already been awarded. Likewise, the property known as 'La fonda' in the historic center has been acquired, which will be converted into a climate interpretation and research center. The project for the creation of a green path that links the town and the beach of Mogán is also ready. The first phase will be put out to tender soon, once authorization is received from the Insular Water Council.

Improved tourist infrastructure plays a prominent role in London, such as Perchel beach, which after its renovation in the summer of 2022 has become a reference for the island's families and visitors thanks to services such as the playground, the rescue and toilets, the restoration one with a terrace, a comfortable 440-meter walk with shade and stands and solar lighting. In addition, the sandy area has increased in surface area, making it much more comfortable and attractive for users, and also allowing sports activities to be carried out, such as paddle tennis tournaments.

The three annual fairs held in Mogán – Mango and Aguacate, Aguacate de Invierno and Tuna and the Sea – are also promoted at the WTM, as well as sporting events such as Mogán Open Water, a swimming trip in open waters that will celebrate its sixth edition on December 9. Likewise, Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria, the prestigious triathlon event that brings together more than fifty athletes from around the world in the municipality and which will celebrate its eighth edition on April 20.
