Maspalomas Costa Canaria has traveled to London to participate in the main tourism fair and promote the destination in the country that sent 792.488 British tourists to Gran Canaria in 2022, 2,7% more than in 2019. The team from the Department of Tourism During these days, the San Bartolomé de Tirajana city council led by Yilenia Vega (CC) will hold different meetings with agents from the sector, among which the one held with the main British tour operator Jet2Holidays stands out, which transported 5,3 million passengers to Gran Canaria. last year, a figure that will increase to 6,7 million in 2024. 

 

On the other hand, and as an action specific to Maspalomas Costa Canaria, the town council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana will organize on November 7 and 8 at the Brent Cross Shopping Center an offline promotional action where, through virtual reality, it will be shown to the passersby the benefits of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria destination. The councilor clarifies that the reason for choosing this location to carry out this action is because “59% of the British tourists who visit us come from London and the north of England.” 

 

The Councilor for Tourism has highlighted that in addition to promotion, it is necessary to reconvert the destination through an ambitious plan to renew public spaces. "We have clear objectives, and one of them is to undertake the necessary works to renew and modernize the tourist city and improve the complementary offer." In this same sense, the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, also present in London, has highlighted in urban matters the great initiatives to be developed and that will influence the requalification of the sector, such as "the push for the approval of the Modernization Plan and Improvement aimed at the accommodation plant and shopping centers, as well as expediting the processing of licenses for the renovation of tourist establishments and the construction of new ones,” adds Marichal.

 

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, expresses his satisfaction with the estimates that indicate that there will be an increase in the number of British tourists of around 22% at the end of 2023, compared to the end of the previous year. For this reason, “it is necessary for Maspalomas Costa Canaria, as one of the leading tourist destinations in Spain in number of overnight stays, to focus all its efforts on building loyalty and continuing to attract new customers, concludes Pérez.
