Sixth Tuna and Sea Fair on November 18 in Mogán

MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, November 09 from 2023

The Mogán Tuna and Sea Fair returns for its sixth edition with the firm objective of highlighting the municipality's fishing sector and promoting seafood producers and especially the tuna that Mogán sailors catch artisanally. To this end, on November 18, Pérez Galdós Square in Arguineguín will host various activities such as showcooking, sale of culinary preparations, tasting, educational and recreational activities for children, tribute to neighbors who dedicated their lives to fishing and live music.

This morning the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, the Councilor for Fisheries, Víctor Gutiérrez, and the Councilor for Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, announced the program of the Fair together with the Fishermen's Guild of Arguineguín, with views to the artisanal and sports fishing boats docked at the town's dock.

“This Fair joins other training actions that we promote from the City Council to highlight the fishing sector and specifically the work of the two Fishermen's Guilds of the municipality, Arguineguín and Playa de Mogán, which house about 60 boats. in which 200 sailors from the municipality work,” Bueno said, emphasizing the artisanal and responsible work of the municipality's fishermen to bring to land the spectacular specimens of tuna that we taste on our tables. “They capture the bait and keep it alive so they can fish with rod and hooks,” he noted.

The counselor, for his part, highlighted that “fairs like this are also tourism” since they make other potentialities of the island visible, such as its gastronomy and the quality of kilometer 0 products. “Evidently we are a destination of sun and beach, but we have many more things and one of the objectives we have set for ourselves is to find ways so that the wealth generated by the tourism industry is better distributed throughout Gran Canaria. One could be gastronomy, and with a fair of these characteristics we are promoting it and involving sailors,” he explained. In addition, he trusts in the attendance of a large number of tourists at the event since the Canary Islands are currently in the middle of the high season. In this sense, to promote it, the City Council has launched promotional videos on social networks in Spanish, English, Norwegian, Italian, Norwegian and German.

Finally, the Fisheries Councilor thanked “all the people involved in making this Fair possible for another year. From culinary advisors, chefs, to Fishermen's Guilds and municipal departments.” Likewise, the support received from Gran Canaria Tourism.

“During the day we will also learn more about tuna and how to make the most of it in the kitchen with the showcooking of Lolo Román, a renowned chef and creative advisor to restaurants such as Masterchef in Madrid,” Bueno noted. Lolo Román was named Best Canarian Chef in the world in 2018, he has been a professor in the area of Culinary Avant-garde at the Basque Culinary Center and today he heads Lolo Román Becoolinary Group, a project that aims to provide solutions and answers to companies, both public and private in the food and restaurant sector, to seat the Canary Islands at the world table of culinary avant-garde.
