Councilor Carlos Álamo visited the mayor of Santa Lucía, Francisco García, to check the status of the tourist infrastructure renovation works and study new projects such as the renovation of the Athletics Stadium, to receive European athletes during the winter season.
Gran Canaria Tourism works with the 21 municipalities of the Island with the aim of making improvements in the tourism and destination infrastructure in search of tourism excellence and the recovery of the sector. Under this premise, the Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, made a visit to the municipality of Santa Lucia de Tirajana this Friday, November 5, together with the mayor of the Southeast municipality, Francisco García, to learn first-hand about the evolution of the joint works being carried out in Pozo Izquierdo and Bahía de Forma, as well as to learn about development projects, such as the needs of the Athletics Stadium to receive foreign athletes. In addition, the meeting served to offer support for the promotion of Gran Canaria in Sweden, through the traditional twinning and coronation of Lucías with the Swedish town of Lulea.
Councilor Carlos Álamo was received at the Municipal Offices by the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and part of his government team, made up of Santiago Rodríguez, as first deputy mayor; Pedro Sánchez, Sports Councilor; Ana Gopar, Councilor for Celebrations; Sergio Vega, councilor of the upper area; Ana Mayor, Councilor for Tourism; Dunia Cubas, honorary consul of Sweden; Juan Sánchez Araña, president of the Patronato de la Luz; and Leandro Martín, representative of the Santa Lucía Festival Commission.
“We are convinced that the work with the 21 municipalities of Gran Canaria is very effective, because they all have great attributes to contribute to the improvement and excellence of the destination,” explained the counselor before pointing out that “this strategy also helps to implement value what we have and generate new products, in addition to helping to distribute the wealth generated by tourism,” explained the advisor and president of the Board of Trustees.
Carlos Álamo pointed out that the collaboration between institutions such as the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, the Tourist Board and the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council currently serves to propose improvements such as those being carried out in Pozo Izquierdo with its own funds and those from the FdCan. “They are important works for the municipality and for our Island, such as Bahía de Forma with a contribution of around half a million euros or the renovation of the seafront and the International Windsurf Center with the intention of receiving tourists and athletes,” he valued this one.
“We have put three important issues on the table,” explained, in turn, the first mayor of Santa Lucía. “We have visited the sports facility to study the possibility that athletes from northern Europe can come to train during the winter season. This Government group is committed to opening Saint Lucia to the sea and we are generating and improving the infrastructure. The Cabildo collaborates in the rehabilitation of Forma Bay and now we have the commitment of the Minister of Tourism to rehabilitate the Windsurf Regatta Center, as this municipality is a benchmark in the celebration of international events of this sport. "We are also going to coordinate the events and events that are organized on the occasion of the visit of the Swedish Lucía and the Gran Canaria Lucía in Sweden and that help to project Sweden in Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria in Sweden in terms of tourism," concluded Mayor Francisco García. .
