The initiative of the Cultural Association 'Settle down and Tumbaos' of Aldea Blanca has the support of the Department of Culture of the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana
The Maspalomas Cultural Center will host this Friday, November 17, the celebration of the III Meeting of Parrandas del Sur, a traditional music event organized by the Cultural and Recreational Association 'Asentaos y Tumbaos' of Aldea Blanca with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
This initiative is part of the quarterly program of leisure events that the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has been offering to the citizens of the municipality as an alternative recreational reference in the performing arts of music, film, theater and dance since last September.
The III Meeting of Parrandas del Sur will be held in the theater of the Maspalomas Cultural Center at 20.00:XNUMX p.m., with free entry until capacity is reached. This edition will feature the hosts' own party, the Parranda El Golpito (Lanzarote) and the Parranda del Lejío (Aguimes).
"The choice of this setting is due to the infrastructure of the building and the centrality that it offers both to the local population and to the numerous European tourists who are on vacation in the municipality at this time, who are offered the possibility of enjoying an artistic spectacle with ethnographic roots,” says the second deputy mayor and Councilor for Culture, Elena Álamo Vega.
The initiative to organize these party gatherings arose from the friendship of three former workers of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council who love Canarian culture and popular and traditional music: Chano Torres, Pedro Franco and Noé Peña. They agreed in valuing the role that parrandas play “in the projection and dissemination of popular music in general and in particular from the Canary Islands, and in the maintenance of customs and traditions,” Torres recalls.
The first edition of the Southern Parrandas Meeting was held in 2019, with the participation of 'Asentaos y Tumbaos', the Mariandá group (San Bartolomé de Tirajana) and the Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite (Lanzarote). The Covid pandemic stopped the continuity of this musical celebration in 2020 and 2021. The initiative was recovered in 2022, the year in which the organizers were joined by the El Cura (Santa Lucía de Tirajana) and La Sebada parrandas, from Morro Jable (Fuerteventura).
