The Canarian leader of the PSOE, Ángel Víctor Torres, is pulling strings in Madrid for Concepción Narváez to be Secretary of State for Tourism once the organizational chart of the Ministry of Tourism is configured in the event that Héctor Gómez leaves the position or changes ministerial portfolio. In the tourism sector in the south of the island it has been interpreted as a logical step to release the knowledge generated by local experience. Narváez's departure could generate changes in the command structure of the local PSOE and review rebalancing of the local institutional system.
The first female mayor of the municipality was a Councilor for Tourism and Urban Planning, she has been an advisor to the Vice Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands with José Miguel Pérez and general director of Infrastructure with Ángel Víctor Torres with the PSC -PSOE. If she were appointed, she would replace Rosana Morillo as the new Secretary of State for Tourism who, in turn, replaced Fernando Valdés. Matilde Asián, now Minister of Finance of the Government of the Canary Islands, held this position with the PP.
Narváez, if appointed, must follow the execution of the Competitiveness and Modernization Plan of the tourism sector financed with 'Next Generation' funds. This Plan represents the largest investment in history in tourism policy in Spain.
