Marco Aurelio Pérez: “We want to include San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the regime of Large Population Municipalities”
Alejandro Marichal proposes to the Government of the Canary Islands “to repeal the figure of 'Substitution of the Owner' included in the law of renewal and modernization of Tourism in the Canary Islands”
The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez; and the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, met with the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo and the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez; to begin to resolve some of the historical needs of the municipality and outline a roadmap with which the regional executive has shown its willingness to respond to the requests that municipal leaders raised in matters of administrative management, Tourism and Housing.
The first of the issues discussed was the open initiative to include San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the regime of Large Population Municipalities, a condition that according to the Legislation defines a very specific administrative organization. As the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, explains, “our municipality has a population of 53.000 inhabitants, however, the population is in fact five times the real population, placing us at 250.000 people between visitors and tourists.” It is for this reason, Pérez continues, that it is necessary "to have an organizational and administrative structure typical of a Large Municipality that results in better management of public services to be able to meet the great demand generated by the floating population that we serve."
The meeting also served to take the first step and advance the commitment made with the Platform of People Affected by the Tourism Law to make residential and tourist uses compatible. The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has accepted Marichal's proposal to promote the repeal of the legal provisions relating to the figure of the 'substitution of the owner' of the property, as well as the articles of Law 2/2013, of renovation and tourist modernization of the Canary Islands that, in the words of Marichal, “directly violate the right to property of those affected.”
On the other hand, in order to meet the high demand for housing, the first deputy mayor and councilor for Housing, Heritage and Urban Planning of San Bartolomé de Tirajana took advantage of the meeting to formalize the municipal plenary agreement, held in October, in which it was agreed transfer 35 million euros to the regional public company Visocan, to carry out the SBT Housing Promotion Plan 2024-2027.
Finally, the first deputy mayor in charge of the Urban Planning area, asked the regional executive to expedite the procedures to promote the approval of the Modernization and Improvement Plan for Maspalomas Costa Canaria.
