The Town Hall of Tunte in San Bartolomé de Tirajana hosted the celebration of a very special plenary session, a children's plenary session organized by the Childhood and Family Program of the Department of Social Services to commemorate the International Children's Day 2023. From early in the morning, the bustle and nervous laughter took over the plenary hall with the nearly 100 6th grade Primary Education students from the Santa Águeda and Pepe Monagas educational centers.
In total, 26 students settled into the seats of the government and opposition groups and after listening to the explanation of the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, about what the ordinary functioning of the plenary sessions is like, the students, trying to To control their nerves, they began to ask the questions and requests they had prepared related to the “Right to leisure, play, culture and the arts”, a topic that this year is the focus of the celebration of International Children's Day.

The requests focused on improving recreational and leisure spaces, raising the need to create areas where “the use of bicycles, scooters, skates and balls is safe.” The mayor celebrated “the different visions they are offering because it helps to have a broader and more effective perspective of what the users who really use these areas want.” Little by little, the nerves gave way to comfort in the armchairs and with a show of hands they raised improvised questions showing their concern, for example, about the “little awareness of people who misuse garbage and recycling containers” or about the “way of acting of some older people who don't let us play in the square because balls are prohibited but smoking is also prohibited and they do it”, questions that unleashed the smiles of all those present.
In summary, the 26 students/councilmen presented their vision on the activities and workshops that should be included in the leisure and cultural agenda as well as in the playgrounds such as “mats, zip lines, many slides, baking workshops as well as a song workshop.” and traditional games that help us not lose our traditions,” were the requests of the majority of the participants.
Marco Aurelio Pérez resolved the students' doubts and thanked them for the extensive review they carried out, demanding their needs "in the most democratic way that exists, through the celebration of this children's plenary session," concluded the mayor. After the closing of the plenary session, the students received a Diploma in gratitude for their participation, and a picnic in the Plaza de Santiago. Later, they enjoyed the workshops and traditional games, acrobatics and skills, which ended the day.
