Mogán's accounts for 2024 suffer a cut of almost 40 million euros

Nueva Canarias de Mogán Sunday, November 19, 2023

NC-BC affirms that the increases in rates and taxes approved by the Onalia Bueno government reveal the serious economic problems of the Mogán City Council

The cut in items such as employment promotion or the primary sector contrasts with the salary increase of the Mogán government

The budget that the Onalia Bueno government has submitted to the plenary for consideration represents a cut in public accounts by almost 40 million euros. Data obtained by comparing the final budget for 2023, which amounts to 90 million euros, with the initial one for 2024, planned at around 51 million euros.

For NC, this cut shows that the budget approved by the Onalia Bueno government is insufficient to meet all the services required by the citizens of the municipality, and is ready to be modified.

For the nationalists, this data, together with the increase in the collection foreseen in the budget, in terms of fees and taxes, after the upward modifications of the municipal ordinances, show that the Mogán City Council has serious problems in self-financing. In this sense, the municipal auditor has expressed himself in his report, stating that the public accounts do not comply with the net savings indicator established by the Government of the Canary Islands, which will mean that Mogán will not receive resources for investment in public works from the Fund. Municipal Financing Canary.

The increase in tax pressure introduced by this proposal will harm those who are having the worst time, especially if we take into account that the lowest average income per household in Gran Canaria is in Mogán, and stands at €25.701.

On the other hand, the nationalist formation has shown that the government group has its priorities in reverse, since on the one hand they affirm in the supporting report of the budget that they are going to bet on employment, families, the primary sector, social protection, security and investments, and what they do is cut employment promotion by 44,45%; 12,95% what they allocate to the primary sector; aid to families by 20,34%; social protection by 4,7%, security by 2,23% and investments in new infrastructure by 95,71%.

This reduction in items contrasts with the increase in the item for government bodies, that is, the item in which government salaries are collected, going from the €494.388,86 budgeted in 2023, to more than €800.000 in the 2024.

This data is important, because compared to the major objectives established in the report, such as employment, the primary sector or support for families, these represent 0,98% and 0,26% in the budget, they do not reach not even 1%, compared to 2,63% of their salaries.

For NC, these data show that the commitment of the government chaired by Onalia Bueno, is not the unemployed residents, let us remember that since he obtained the baton, the data on unemployment in the municipality of Mogán, according to the INE (survey of active population) show that the average unemployment rate is now 16%, above the national average of around 12%.

The nationalists also denounced that the budget hides data from the councilors and residents of Mogán, because the report of the Mogán Gestión company, financed with 100% municipal capital, avoids explaining what the results are in terms of income from the Arguineguín parking lot. , an investment that was around 14 million euros, and whose profitability NC doubts.

In short, for the nationalist formation, Mogán's accounts for next year are insufficient, unsupportive, and show that the economic management carried out by Onalia Bueno puts the financial sustainability of public services at risk, while at the same time It shows great structural weakness that will worsen once the new fiscal rules come into force.
