The Pet Fair was attended by more than 3.000 visitors and more than 500 dogs
Animundo, the Pet Fair, closed its sixth edition this Sunday, November 19, fulfilling three objectives: raising awareness, encouraging adoptions and giving a boost to the animal products and services sector. With all this, Infecar, Gran Canaria Fair, has received over these two days more than 3.000 visitors and more than 500 dogs, who have enjoyed as a family a meeting point for all animal lovers.

“Animundo closes its doors successfully raising awareness about the care and responsible ownership of animals. It has been a weekend where three thousand people have shared in this meeting space, not only animal lovers, but also professionals, shelters and associations, all with that common goal of raising awareness, of valuing, the care of the animal, responsible ownership of them as well as non-abandonment,” said the Minister of Economic Development, Industry, Crafts and Commerce of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso.
With almost thirty exhibitors, Animundo has provided a large space in which to show the commercial offering of sectors such as food, insurance, education, fashion, veterinary clinics and centers or associations and shelters, which have publicized the latest trends and products to visitors.
The actress and animal advocate Mónica Cruz was in charge of opening the session of presentations and adoption catwalks with a personal talk in which she told the story of Pandora, Robin, Mia, Raven, Bella and Juanita, her adopted dogs . “They have all come to my house in different circumstances and at different times and they have all taught me that all they need is love. Love that helps them heal the wounds they already have,” said Cruz.
Mónica Cruz was joined by Ismael Beiro, winner of the first edition of Big Brother, who told the attendees how, together with his brother, he rescued the last members of his family in a ditch. “We didn't have to talk to each other. As soon as we saw that there were two little heads moving on the shoulder, we stopped the car, put them inside and we knew that they already had a home,” he added.
After this, the first of the sessions of the adoption gateway day began. This attraction, the star activity of each edition of Animundo, has contributed to finding families for almost a dozen animals that came from the Bañaderos Island Animal Shelter and the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council.
However, this gateway is a crucial element so that families who are thinking about adopting have a first contact with how adoptions work and then, if they do not decide during the fair, they can formalize it during the next few days.
The dog pools, located outside the venue and which have returned to this edition of Animundo, have been one of the highlights of the two days, marked by high temperatures. The visiting dogs have enjoyed a moment of soaking play and their owners watching them have a great time.
In addition to the outdoor exhibitions, on this last day the Pet Fair held a round table on 'Sports and fun for dogs and people'; an exhibition of the units of the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria GOIA-UE and the Coexistence and Mediation Unit (UMEC) and three presentations on the importance of knowing how to manage the death of our pet; responsible animal ownership and good feline colony management practices.
Animundo thus closes a sixth edition marked by good results and extensive citizen follow-up, which reaffirm the importance of having meeting points in which to meet around animal welfare.
This Pet Fair is promoted and financed by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, organized by Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria; It is sponsored by El Corte Inglés; the official collaboration of Cajasiete; and the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council, the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, the Insular Animal Shelter, the Las Palmas Official Veterinary College, the Granky Club and Atap, as collaborators.
