The continuity of Héctor Gómez or the entry of Ángel Víctor Torres are the main options for the archipelago to have a presence in the new government
“I am convinced that Sánchez will have canaries in his new legislature,” said the former Canarian president, Ángel Víctor Torres, after the inauguration of Pedro Sánchez as the new president of the government.
Some statements that gave rise to many conjectures regarding the formation of the new Council of Ministers; from the continuity of Héctor Gómez at the head of the Industry, Commerce and Tourism portfolio or the entry of Ángel Víctor Torres as minister.
A bet that would be justified in Torres' experience after his time as president of the Government of the Canary Islands and his fundamental role in the negotiations with the Canary Coalition in recent weeks to obtain his "yes" during the investiture debate.
However, it is also possible that Ángel Víctor Torres has referred to the continuity of Héctor Gómez as Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, a position in which he has played a good role since his entry into the Council of Ministers at the end last March after the departure of Reyes Maroto when presenting his candidacy for mayor of Madrid.
Although a priori Héctor Gómez and Ángel Víctor Torres are the main candidates for the Canary Islands to have a presence in the Council of Ministers, there is also the possibility (although somewhat more remote) that Pedro Sánchez decides to once again have the experience of Carolina Darias as minister or, on the contrary, have new faces such as Gran Canaria Ada Santana, the youngest representative in the chamber, as part of her commitment to measures to benefit the youngest during her mandate.
Since entering Parliament, Santana has had various social issues as her banner, including feminism, which could place her as an option to take into account if Sánchez decides to maintain the Ministry of Equality.
The serious migration crisis that the Canary Islands are experiencing could also have weight in the president's decision. In this case, Pedro Sánchez could decide to count on Luc Andre Diouf, a deputy for Las Palmas of Senegalese origin who has served as an intercultural mediator and immigration technician. He has also been co-founder and president of the Federation of African Associations in the Canary Islands.
It is expected that all these doubts will be cleared up this Monday, when the newly inaugurated President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, is expected to announce his Council of Ministers for this new legislature.
