Tirajana wants to capture the hated digital nomads

Gara Hernandez Monday, November 20, 2023

In Las Palmas it has been a failure and generated tourismphobia but Brussels sends money and the technicians take advantage of everything. The municipal authorities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana have launched this November a mechanism to attract digital nomads, that is, European people who work remotely from the south of Gran Canaria and do not pay taxes; but they generate employment. They are poor people who wander around the world pretending to have an unconventional lifestyle.

To this end, it will pay with European funds for a "promotion campaign" of San Bartolomé de Tirajana "as a space for the permanent or temporary settlement of digital nomads, by identifying the needs of this group and implementing actions to generate an attractive, functional and competitive reception space on an international level". To implement is to hire some association to promote this product that in Las Palmas no one wants because it increases the price of housing.

In all the verbiage that the idea of Interreg carries, the thesis of "generating an ecosystem" of "digital business initiatives, supporting the status of San Bartolomé de Tirajana as a Smart city, generating business diversification, quality employment and a more resilient environment" is pointed out. to economic cycles".

All this goes to a plan with money from Brussels in "the Smart Territories project for the improvement of digital competitiveness" of the companies and entrepreneurs of the Mac Space, identified by the acronym SMART-ECO and code MAC2/2.3d/358, belonging to the INTERREG VA Spain - Portugal Territorial Cooperation Program, contemplated in the 2nd MAC call 2014-2020.
