Jéssica de León recognizes AMTC as a 'necessary interlocutor' for the development of the sector

 

The Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC) held a General Assembly of the thirteen member destinations of the entity within the XI International Tourism Forum of Maspalomas Costa Canaria, in which they conveyed to the Ministry of Tourism their intention to actively participate. in the debate and decision-making of issues that currently affect the sector and where the regional manager recognized the entity as a “necessary interlocutor for the development of the sector.”

 

 

In this sense, the president of the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, conveyed to the regional Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, different topics of interest for coastal and long-established municipalities. tourism of the archipelago, such as those that have to do with vacation homes and safety decrees on the beaches, as well as the need to create protection and promotion programs for tourism workers and tax issues in the contracting of services.

 

He made an offer from the association to work together to generate common regulations that take into account the reality of each area and joint governance taking into account the municipalities.

 

The mayor also explained to the counselor the need and vocation of this entity, “as a tool from the perspective of nearby administrations that provide basic services to tourists and residents,” insisting on participation in “an active and useful way.” in the work of the sector.”

 

Rodríguez Fraga insisted that “it is correct” that the Ministry of Tourism is linked to Employment, “as it is the most generating sector with the commitments and challenges that have to do with the training and qualification of workers. “All this without forgetting the residents, as a fundamental element of the sector,” insisted the president of the AMTC. From that perspective, he added that the Association offers to work together “for the good of the economic development of the Canary Islands.”

 

Furthermore, he stressed that "the association works with neutral criteria, motivated by the commitment of the sector and to be responsible for the set of services that must be provided to residents and visitors."

 

Along these lines, the vice president of the Association and mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, requested that de León take into account the tourist municipalities when developing these regulations and “let's go hand in hand.”

 

The mayor also referred to general issues about the Vacation Housing Law at the meeting. Likewise, Bueno emphasized the need for the Ministry of Tourism and Employment to provide clarification on the payment of the IGIC from the European Funds.

 

For her part, the regional Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, highlighted that the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands is a body that helps channel all aspects that concern the sector, committing to work “for all municipalities and all Canaries".

 

He highlighted that the AMTC will be an institution of direct dialogue to work on all these issues, highlighting the “mainstreaming” of the tourism sector “which affects all policies and all areas.”

 

Jessica de León also expressed her commitment to participate in periodic meetings with the AMTC to advance all debate topics that affect tourist municipalities, such as the Tourism Infrastructure Plan, which is endowed with 62 million euros.

 

The General Assembly of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands, in which the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, host of the XI International Tourism Forum of Maspalomas Costa Canaria, It also served to define contracting processes for different projects developed by the entity, as well as to define joint action strategies in the next tourist events, marking as a priority the work that can be carried out in mid-January in Fitur, thus consolidating the recovery of the sector in the Canary Islands.
