The renovation of shopping centers, among the challenges addressed by the XI Maspalomas Tourism Forum

Starting today, November 23, Maspalomas hosts the eleventh edition of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria International Tourism Forum, bringing together hundreds of specialists and professionals from the tourism field in the main tourist municipality of Gran Canaria to analyze trends and address experiences about problems and solutions. in this sector, one of the most strategic in the Canary Islands.

 

 

The potential of luxury tourism, hotel architecture adapted to climate change and the field of health, tourismphobia, the renovation of shopping centers in tourist destinations or the power of artificial intelligence in the current tourism industry, are some of the aspects that will be addressed as new on the first day of this eleventh edition.

 

On the second day, the Forum will include presentations and discussion tables on the organization of tourist use of housing in the Canary Islands, hospitality as a challenge for the current tourism sector, the future keys to tourism with regard to technology and employment, the experiences of clients and new trends, or the relationship between the banking sector and the development of tourist destinations such as the case of the Dominican Republic.

 

The Rector of the ULPGC, Lluís Serra, was present at the opening ceremony of the Forum, along with the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, the Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands Government, Jésica de León, and the President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales.

 

In his speech, the Rector highlighted the “clear vocation and commitment” of the ULPGC to promote the training and excellence of future professionals in the tourism sector, through the implementation of various university training programs. “Our University has a Faculty that is especially proactive in this area, the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism,” he noted, “and, in addition, we have a University Institute specialized in Tourism and Sustainable Development, and with the valuable activity of many others. University Research Institutes and Centers of our University that actively collaborate in tourism research and training projects of a very diverse nature, which have been able to build and take advantage of highly interesting synergies”, to conclude by remembering that the ULPGC brings together almost 120 research groups who work on topics related in one way or another to tourism. 

 

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, highlighted “the formative vocation of the forum”, since its inception, “to transmit to society what we have learned in the Canary Islands about tourism, which should serve us to help others , and ourselves, to improve and analyze those elements that can be implemented as new solutions for the tourism industry.”

 

The XI International Tourism Forum Maspalomas Costa Canaria has the collaboration of the World Tourism Organization and includes the celebration of parallel events: a debate session, a gastroforum and a Scientific Congress under the title 'Challenges and Opportunities for the Tourism Sector' .

 

The debate days welcome specialists and professionals from all over the world, the scientific congress brings together a hundred national and international speakers and experts who present their research and participate in the gastroforum.

In this 2023 edition, the Tourinews 2023 Awards will also be presented: "The value of Tourism", whose objective is to identify, recognize and make known those companies, professionals and organizations that have served or serve as an example and inspiration to all agents of the tourism industry. 

 

The Maspalomas Costa Canarias International Tourism Forum, together with the Atlantic Chair of Gastronomy, also promotes the Atlantic Award for gastronomy and tourism, in its different modalities.
