The arrival of tourist winter always feels good to Montebalito. The hotel division of Grupo Meridional maintains its land reserves in the south of Gran Canaria intact, waiting for good times and decreases in energy costs to take advantage of what could be one of the best pockets of tourist areas in Spain: the Balito ravine. The Marina Élite Mogán already has the Marina Élite Mogán operating in the south of the island moored to TUI. But it also has its own tour operator. That is to say: the only tour operation company that exists fiscally on the islands is that of the Barreras family company: Politours. The day they find out in Las Palmas, a nervous shock will be generated given the promotional channel for the islands that this represents and after Ashotel failed with a similar mechanism that emerged in the heat of Covid19 and that included an airline that was never heard from again.
But Cartera Meridional is not a tick extracting public funds. The hotel in the south of Gran Canaria does not appear in trade fair operations such as Fitur or ITB and is combined with the Politours offer that has Egypt and the Middle East, Russia, Cuba or Kenya on its agenda. Politours specializes in river cruises on European rivers such as the Rhine, Seine, Danube or the Volga. It is at the beginning of 2019, when the Meridional Group, through its tourism brand Up&Fly, acquires 25% of the company and the use of the brand, as well as its computer reservation system and begins its market launch.
Among the new projects is the construction of a hotel complex in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Specifically, it has more than 50.000 square meters of buildable space to develop hotels and tourist apartments with more than 500 accommodation units in the south of the island. In fact, the group plans the construction of a hotel complex on San Agustín beach with 55 apartments, commercial premises, a spa, a beach club, large gardens and two outdoor swimming pools.
Grupo Meridional acquired 2022 square meters in 2.800 for the promotion of 39 homes in Arguineguín. Grupo Meridional is a shareholder of the Montebalito developer. Among its assets on the islands is the Edificio Iberia office building and also the four-star Marina Élite hotel located in the municipality of Mogán (Gran Canaria). Meridional is a family business holding company with more than 50 years of history and more than 200 employees. The activities of its companies are diversified both sectorally and geographically, with a presence in the real estate industry, through Montebalito, which is listed on the continuous market; the tourism sector through the travel wholesaler Politours; the naval industry through the Southern Marine Society; financial management through the collective management investment company Metagestion, regulated by the CNMV; and renewable energies, a division managed by MTB Ren.
