A cyclist recovered from a cardiorespiratory arrest in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

This afternoon the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 1-1-2 of the Government of the Canary Islands received an alert in which it was reported that a cyclist required health assistance on the GC-500 highway, Pasito Blanco area, municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana

 

After verifying that the affected person was in cardiorespiratory arrest, a SUC coordinating doctor, present in the operating room, gave instructions through telecare to the alerter so that they could begin practicing resuscitation maneuvers.

 

A 69-year-old man recovered from cardiorespiratory arrest has been transferred in critical condition by medical helicopter from the SUC to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria

 

1-1-2 immediately activated the necessary emergency resources. SUC personnel confirmed that the cyclist remained in cardiorespiratory arrest and continued practicing advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, managing to regain his pulse. Once stabilized, he was transferred in critical condition by medical helicopter from the SUC to the helisurface of the aforementioned hospital.

Firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire Fighting and Rescue Service collaborated with health personnel and ensured the landing and takeoff maneuvers of the helicopter on the road. The Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana intervened in the emergency device deployed at the site, regulated traffic on the road and made the appropriate reports.
