About 70 residents of Segovia have ended their presence in the south of the island this week for the XXVII anniversary of the twinning between San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the municipality of Segovia, and the seventh between the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and the Provincial Council of Segovia. In the south of Gran Canaria they have visited the old IFA Continental in Playa del Inglés, Las Palmas, Faro and Palmeral de Maspalomas, the José Sarmiento museum in El Tablero, the Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Agaete harvest museum.
The close ties between the Segovian Andariegos Association, chaired by Francisco García Borregón, and the Canarian Aboriginal Barmen Association, currently headed by Guillermo Guedes, allowed this peculiar relationship to be shaped between Segovia and Gran Canaria, which goes beyond of those original ties of friendship and that has become a cultural, gastronomic and tourist connection.
About 250 people attended the traditional dinner held at the Aeroclub restaurant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. An event in which, thanks to the collaboration of the Segovia Provincial Council, some Food from Segovia could be tasted, prepared by the Segovia chef Dionisio Soto. After an appetizer of Celestino Arribas cheeses from Escalona del Prado, the beans from La Granja de La Criba de Valseca and the famous suckling pig from Segovia arrived, but not before attending the traditional carving ceremony, which they were in charge of on this occasion. the Segovians Maricruz Olmos, Carlos Vidal and his wife María Ángeles Merino (Association of Andariegos), José Sarmiento (Association of Aboriginal Barmen) and the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marcos Aurelio Pérez. A dinner in which Valtiendas wines could be tasted and in which Jambur Hams also collaborated, since the desserts included the delivery of different gifts provided by collaborating companies from Segovia to Canarian collaborators.
