This Sunday, footballer David García Santana received a warm and emotional tribute of gratitude and sporting recognition in Maspalomas, his hometown. The initiative came from his closest friends and was supported by the Sports and Culture Departments of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council.

Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez informed David, in the presence of his parents, that his name will henceforth label soccer field No. 1 of the Ciudad Deportiva “because of his legacy as a legend of Canarian soccer.”

The tribute to David García (San Fernando de Maspalomas, February 25, 1982) was held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center, presented by the journalist Paco García Caridad and in the presence of his family and the coaches and directors of the clubs in which he He has played: CD Maspalomas, UD Vecindario, UD Las Palmas, UD Tamaraceite and CF Arucas.

The president of the Insular Football Federation, José Juan Arencibia, participated in the event; the coaches Juan Manuel Rodríguez and Pacuco Rosales, and also Orlando Baena, the first coach that David García had during his formative stage in the youth ranks of CD Maspalomas. The presidents of the Federation of Clubs of the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas and the Peña David García also participated in the tribute.

The colorful notes in this tribute to the former defensive 'Kaiser' of UD were provided by the congratulatory videos recorded by his closest friends, promoters of the event, by his former teammates on the yellow team and also by other Spanish footballers; the performance of comedian and monologist Landy; and the musical proposal offered by the members of the murga Los Nietos de Sarymanchez, who opened and closed the event with their song expressly dedicated to David García for his “example of companionship, determination and dedication”, and with the anthem of La Unión Sports 'Yellow is my color', respectively.

David García trained at CD Maspalomas, and from this he went on to join the military at UD Vecindario, where he played two seasons until he ended up at UD Las Palmas, a team in which he served as captain. With the yellow team he played a total of 474 games, becoming the player with the most official games played.
