The counselor responsible for the council of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, assures that part of the business interest in the US to include Gran Canaria in the routes of its tourists

A Gran Canaria Tourism team, together with a business representation of the sector, will travel to the United States next week, on the occasion of a commercial trip that includes holding two meetings with agencies, tourist agents and companies in the sector, one to be held in New York on December 12 and another in Miami, on December 14, with the purpose of capturing and attracting the growing interest of this market for new destinations in Spain and Europe, in addition to taking advantage of the new air routes with the Canary Islands.

"This initiative is based on our own interest in opening and expanding relationships with a very powerful and good-spending market, but it also responds to the fact that in recent years we have detected an enormous business desire to get to know us on the part of this market, to visit us and to somehow include the Gran Canaria destination in the routes of tourists from the United States,” explained the Tourism Minister of Gran Canaria.

He indicated that the client from the United States and North America, by extension, has been prioritizing destinations in the European area for years, "some of them are regions or cities well known and visited by them, so now they are seeking to expand the options and weave new networks of interest that can be part of an established route, with a stop in Gran Canaria before traveling to the continent or other points of interest in Africa or also as a trip to fully enjoy the Canary Islands.

The counselor pointed out that today there are routes with the Canary Islands that enable the presence of this client in our archipelago, beyond their arrival through cruise activity. "The new routes make it possible to initiate a strategy to address the US tourism market and attract customers from one of the main markets in the world, both due to the number of Americans seeking to visit new destinations, as well as their spending capacity at the destination," he stated. the counselor.

“Now, with the new routes – both through the Azores and with a stopover in Tenerife, we believe that it is the right time to go and try to attract new clients and business opportunities, simply because the interest on their part is real and shared by both. parties and it would be good for the Island as it is a good spending client and would allow us to advance in our market diversification process," said Álamo, before pointing out that diversification has been a "success for the tourism sector of Gran Canaria and has prevented a rapid recovery by not depending on the specific health of the Nordic and German markets.”

The Gran Canaria Tourism team will be attended by counselor Carlos Álamo and its managing director, Pablo Llinares. Both lead an expedition of four people from the Council of Gran Canaria, which will be joined by representatives from companies such as Meliá, Seaside, Livvo, Barceló Hotels, Bohemia, Turisbeds and Lopesan, among others.

The travel plan consists of five days with two events in the traveling program that will take place on Tuesday, December 12, in New York, and Thursday, December 14, in Miami, before the main actors in the United States tourism sector, including agents of trips, tour operators, tourism associations, representatives of web portals and the airline sector. With this commercial trip, Gran Canaria aims to connect directly with the 'decision makers' or top managers of the US tourism issuing market; connect directly with the main investors and representatives of the US tourism sector; enable commercial and/or institutional agreements between tourism agents in the US and hotel groups and businessmen in Gran Canaria; in addition to developing commercial activities in the US.
