'Maintain over time' the commitment to the coronation of the Swedish Lucia in Maspalomas

 

The municipalities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Lulea, a coastal town in northern Sweden, will ensure that in coming years they maintain the coronation of the Swedish Lucia in the El Salvador Ecumenical Temple in Playa del Inglés, as it has been recorded uninterruptedly every December 12 since its first edition was created in 1963. They agree on their promotional importance for the Scandinavian tourism that chooses Maspalomas at this time of year.

 

The commitment was made this Thursday by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez and the Vice Mayor responsible for the Department of Culture and Leisure of Lulea, Inger Boström, during the reception that the City Council offered to the Swedish delegation from the provincial capital of Norrbotten and also to the Board of Trustees of La Luz as promoter of the coronation of the Scandinavian Lucía in Maspalomas for 60 years now.

 

 

It was precisely the current president of the Board of Trustees, Juan Vicente Sánchez Araña, who launched the petition to the mayor. "We thank you for entering into an agreement with the Swedish community to maintain, as far as possible, this traditional visit of the Swedish Lucía to Gran Canaria and Maspalomas, because it contributes to promoting tourism and relations of twinning and friendship between the Canarian and Maspalomas communities. Swedish,” he said.

 

Marco Aurelio Pérez assumed the commitment, clarifying that “the new generations that come behind must also join the work of supporting this initiative, because they will be the ones who will have to assume and defend that this tradition can be preserved and maintained over time,” he stated. , after recognizing “the important presence and integration of the Swedish colony in the urbanization of San Agustín, and its valuable contribution and influence in the tourism promotion of the municipality throughout the Scandinavian area. There are many Nordic tourists who come to Maspalomas at this time of year and they are welcome,” he said.

 

 

 

In the municipal reception for the Swedish Lucía, a distinction that this year went to the young student Frida Simone Fridriksdottir, the honorary consul of Sweden since 2012, Dunia Cubas, also participated, who admitted along with the vice mayor of Lulea that the Swedish tourism commitment to Maspalomas “we will continue to maintain it.” Also present at this event were the second deputy mayor and councilor for Education and Culture, Elena Álamo Vega; the Councilor for Tourism, Yilenia Vega Macías; the Councilor for Social Services, Dimas Sarmiento Navarro and the Councilor for Sports, Ramón Suárez Ojeda.
