Maspalomas: the G8 of tourism can now host Mogán

GARA HERNÁNDEZ Saturday, December 16, 2023

The G8 of Spanish tourist municipalities has changed its president and the south of Gran Canaria expects him to occupy this position before 2027. In 2024 Juan Antonio Amengual assumes the presidency of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities. There are other changes that may allow Mogán to join as a partner, generating balance with respect to Tenerife.

In this way, the mayor of Calvià will be accompanied in the vice presidency by the mayor of Lloret de Mar, Adrià Lamelas. The AMT is made up of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Lloret de Mar, Adeje, Arona, Torremolinos, Salou, Benidorm and Calviá, which work together to put together a roadmap to achieve the objectives set for an improvement in financing and consideration as tourist municipality, for the good of visitors and our residents.

The AMT proposal in 2024 is to defend that localities that are not the capital of a province or an autonomous community with a population of between 10.000 and 100.000 inhabitants be considered a tourist municipality, where second homes exceed the number of first homes, that have more than four million overnight stays annually or the number of accommodation places is greater than 50% of the census population in each municipality.
