The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) and the regional company ITC have given the green light to the repowering work of the company that owns the Las Gaviotas Wind Farm (Pegasa) and which has been carried out by the Pérez Moreno company, with an investment of 8,23 million euros, reported the construction company directed by Javier Pérez Zúñiga. What has been carried out is the dismantling of 11 360 kW wind turbines for the installation of 3 Enercon E-70 2300 kW wind turbines.
Construction began in August 1999 and came into operation in September 2000 and at that time it was the wind farm that had the wind turbines with the highest unit power of those installed on the island. It was the first medium-power installation supplied by the national wind turbine manufacturer Ecotècnia on the island of Gran Canaria and the second by the Catalan firm this supplier in the archipelago after Granadilla, Tenerife.
The wind farm now consisted of 11 fixed-pitch three-blade wind turbines of 630 kW of nominal unit power, designed with a rotor diameter of 44 meters and the height of the tubular, truncated-conical tower that supports it is 45 meters. The blade model was manufactured at the Aertusa plant in Tudela (Navarra).
The repowering will allow the use of the park's location, in the southeast of Gran Canaria, which once had Mondragón and Elecnor among its shareholders. This investment of 8,23 million euros has received a subsidy of 1,47 million euros from the Eolcan program, co-financed with Feder community funds.
The owners of Pegasa are the City Council of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, ITC, IDAE and Ayagaures Medioambiente (Ayme), a subsidiary of Pérez Moreno, which maintains that it is "an example of success as a mixed company with public and private capital," said Antonio Díaz. , manager of Ayme. He has foreseen that with this project "the park will have an expected useful life of 30 years." The annual production of the wind park in terms of equivalent electrical consumption of homes: 2.135 homes.
