The mayor, Concepción Narváez, considers that we are at a vital moment for the relaunch of the tourism sector
The mayor, Concepción Narváez; the Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo; The councilor for tourism Inés Rodríguez and the vice president of the business organization, Tom Smulders, held a meeting this morning, Monday, with the aim of unifying criteria and working in a single direction, under the criterion of defending tourist accommodation regulated and fight against illegal activity.
Concepción Narváez considers this type of meeting between responsible public administrations and business representatives to be of vital importance, since it assumes that there is a common interest in exercising greater control and surveillance in defense of the legal tourist bed. “We are at a vital moment,” indicated the mayor, “where the sector is beginning to recover and it is very important that we are all united and in the same direction, with the aim of guaranteeing that things are done well and legal activity is respected. ”he added.
Narváez indicated that, during this meeting, the importance of resuming investments in works in tourist destinations was also discussed. “We must return to the rhythm before the pandemic to provide services to those tourists who choose to spend their vacations in our municipality,” said the mayor, who cited several examples, such as the Paseo de Meloneras or the almost finished project of the GC – 500.
The representatives of the two public administrations and businessmen highlighted the importance of continuing to maintain San Bartolomé de Tirajana as a “safe health destination” given the increase in visitors in recent months. In this sense, the mayor stressed that "it is essential for health security that all institutions are coordinated and that we do not let our guard down regarding the arrival of visitors in the coming months."
