Mogán requests Costas to demolish the spiral staircase of the Barranco de La Hondura

Last Thursday, November 4, an 18-year-old young man was rescued in the area, and although they initially managed to stabilize him after more than fifteen minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), he finally died.

The Mogán City Council has sent a formal letter to the Canary Islands Coastal Demarcation to request the demolition of the spiral staircase of the Barranco de La Hondura, which is accessed from the pedestrian promenade that connects Puerto Rico and Amadores, due to the continuous cases in which the lives of people are in danger who ignore the wall that prevents access to this staircase and the signs that prohibit bathing in the cove and warn of possible rock falls.

Last Thursday, November 4, an 18-year-old young man was rescued in the area, and although they initially managed to stabilize him after more than fifteen minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), he finally died. But this has not been the only case in recent years, with two people even losing their lives in the same day.

The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, wants to put an end to this black spot in the municipality. “That staircase should never have been built to connect a pedestrian walkway with an area not authorized for bathing and without security for those who visit it,” she says.

To this end, it has made a formal request to the Canary Islands Coastal Demarcation so that it urges the concessionaire of the staircase, Puerto Rico SA, to demolish it to prevent this type of incidents from continuing to occur in the municipal area.
