36th birthday of the Living Nativity Scene of Veneguera

December 25, Christmas, is a date full of hope and gathering of loved ones, but also of fulfilling traditions, such as going to the Living Nativity Scene of Veneguera, which has celebrated 36 years enjoying enviable health thanks to the involvement of the more than 150 residents who participate in it and the support of the public, which this edition once again reached 4.000 people, all of them willing to enjoy the representation of the Birth, traditional crafts and activities, live music and gastronomic tastings. 

 

 

Families from all over Gran Canaria and a good number of tourists came to the beautiful Moganero neighborhood. At 17:30 p.m. the Christmas Mass began in the neighborhood church with the presence of local boys and girls dressed in traditional clothing. There was no shortage of Taidia Galván Galiano and José Ángel Jiménez Torres, the neighbors who this year represented María and José alongside the Baby Jesus, a role occupied by their daughter, Jimena, who was only 21 days old. 

 

When the liturgy was over, they went out to the portico where the traditional 'La Cunita' dance was dedicated to them with live music and the three Wise Men, more Canarian than Eastern, entertained them with their offerings. Next, accompanied by a donkey, more folk music and all the people gathered there, they headed to the natural space The Cardonera, taking their place in the portal where they were guarded by a cow and the donkey. 

 

The representation of more than forty scenes then began with the participation of more than 150 residents of Veneguera, some from Barranco de Mogán and even Tasarte, contributing to creating a magical and unique atmosphere for this event organized by the Living Belén Collective of Venguera with the collaboration of the Mogán City Council. 

 

In this edition of the Nativity scene, the carpenter, blacksmiths, stonemason, craftsman of wooden games and horn, nougat maker, charcoal maker, jigsaw makers, washermen and washerwomen and ironers took part. In addition, this edition featured a school where boys and girls studied and practiced traditional activities, a Canarian mansion with a peculiar family and the traditional San Pascual Dance, as well as a party typical of the 70s.

 

 

As usual, livestock work was present with the threshing floor, the pigsty, the chicken coop, the beehives and the team of cows, as well as those related to agriculture such as the tomato, banana, pumpkin, potato and millet farms. During the tour it was possible to enjoy demonstrations of the Salto del Pastor, crafts and jobs, and even see how Canarian cheese and stew are made with products collected from the garden installed there. Also participate in common leisure activities of the past such as roulette and bottle fishing.

 

Likewise, the attendees, including the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and members of the Government group, were able to try freshly made bread, hot chocolate, pumpkin tortillas, buns, buttermilk, broth, oranges. , guarapo, delicacies from the 'Oil and Vinegar Store', coffee and infusions. In this beautiful Christmas celebration, live music also shined with the Umiaya Folkloric Group, from San Fernando de Maspalomas, the Los Tempranillo party, and the Labrantes Folkloric and Cultural Group, from Arucas.
