The 27th LALIGA FC FUTURES International Tournament , the most important under-12 football event in the world, kicked off today in Gran Canaria . Clear skies, packed stands at the Maspalomas Sports Complex , high anticipation, and an enviable 24-degree temperature provided the perfect setting for the public to enjoy watching some of the most outstanding youth academies on the planet.

 

In the VIP box were familiar faces: José Ramón de la Morena , president of the foundation that bears his name and has promoted this tournament with LALIGA since 2014, and Ángel María Villar , former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Also present were the Gran Canaria Island Council's Tourism Councillor, Carlos Álamo ; the Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez ; the City Councillor for Sports, Ramón Suárez ; and the event's promoter, Domingo Espino.

 

 

The Tourism Councillor of the Gran Canaria Island Council, Carlos Álamo , described the day as “the long-awaited and desired photo opportunity to kick off one of the most important tournaments in Europe, a magnificent showcase for Gran Canaria. It's a brilliant move to combine a tourist destination with the passion of sport; at this time of year, many families come to support the future stars, and what better place to do so than here at 24 degrees Celsius while the rest of Europe suffers the harshness of the continental winter.”

 

For his part, the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez , emphasized “the quality of our sports facilities, this sunshine on December 27th, top-level football…we are offering the best image to the world.”

 

Las Palmas ' debut in the tournament's opening match against Olympique de Marseille was nothing short of spectacular. Edian Morales opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, followed by two more goals from Fabio Domínguez , one of them a stunning left-footed penalty that effectively sealed the victory. The French side fought until the very end, scoring a goal three minutes from time, but Las Palmas' tactical discipline secured a well-deserved 3-1 win.

 

 

Real Sociedad secured their second victory of the day against Liverpool with two goals from Raúl Celorrio , the first a stunning Olympic goal that drew applause from the stands. Dangerous chances for Liverpool were met by some solid saves from the Real Sociedad goalkeeper, giving the txuri-urdin (blue and white) team a 2-0 win.

 

The Spanish teams continued to rack up victories in the match between Juventus and Rayo Vallecano . Álvaro Cabezuelo 's side won 1-0 with a goal from Isaac Alexander . Meanwhile, CD Tenerife drew 1-1 against Borussia Dortmund with goals from Moi and Michel in a match where the Tenerife goalkeeper's performance stood out. The same result was seen in the match between Atlético de Madrid and Real Betis . For the Andalusians, their captain, Tiago Polo , scored with a pass from Mamadou Coulibaly . Atlético's goal came from a header by Hugo García.

  

There was great anticipation for the final match of the morning between Real Madrid and Sevilla FC , officiated by one of the greats of Spanish refereeing, Mateu Lahoz from Valencia , recently retired from professional football after a 30-year career and a possible candidate to preside over the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Real Madrid opened the scoring with a powerful left-footed strike from captain Alberto Ruiz . In the second half, a goal from Asier after a rebound from the goalkeeper sent the Real Sociedad fans into raptures, but Atlético de Madrid secured a 2-1 victory with a goal from Adri.

 

Olympique de Marseille against Sevilla FC : Fran García 's team took the lead with a fantastic set-piece goal finished off by Dani González . 0-1 to the Andalusian side. Real Betis thrashed Liverpool . Mamadou was spectacular , scoring two goals for his team before the first three minutes had even elapsed. The third came from a corner converted by Richmond . A move by Tiago Polo to Jesús resulted in the fourth goal for Betis. Another assist from Polo, this time to Juan , for the fifth goal. Richmond then finished off the sixth, and Francisco scored just a minute from the end to make it 0-7.

 

The stands were packed for the match between Real Madrid and UD Las Palmas . The home team fell to the Madrid club 2-0 with goals from Mikel López , although both teams put on a brilliant performance. Tenerife also missed out , as FC Barcelona secured a 3-0 victory in their tournament debut with two stunning goals from their center forward, Mamadou , and a thunderous strike from Dragos.

 

Tomorrow, Thursday, the tournament returns at 10:00 a.m. with the last matches of the Group Stage. The quarterfinals will take place starting at 17:00 p.m. All matches are held at the Maspalomas Sports City with free entry.
